A garish light woke up Elaine. After adjusting to the brightness, she looked around and saw a boy laying next to her covered in grass.

How did she end up here?

It took her a moment to remember that her and her new friend, Michael, skipped the whole day of school to hang out and get high in the fields behind the school. They must have fallen asleep outside in the grass and the fluorescent stadium lights had just turned on, successfully waking her up.

After Elaine accepted Michael's offer of the joint earlier, she ended up smoking the whole thing...and maybe a couple more.

She looked over to see the half-asleep red head standing up from the ground.

"Err... goodbye I guess..." Elaine trailed off while wiping her dirt-covered palms on her jeans, not really sure how to leave him. They weren't really friends, but should she hug him? Or at least exchange numbers? This whole situation was foreign to her.

"Yea, see you around, babe." Michael winked as he walked off the field. He looked surprisingly good considering he literally just slept in dirt.

After the short exchange of words with Michael, Elaine got up and started making her way towards her neighborhood. She walked around for a while pondering over whether or not to actually go into her house. She was slightly scared to get back home and face her mother; it was late and she would probably start reprimanding her.

Lately, her mom has been trying to get closer to her. It was nice, but Elaine wished that she would leave her alone and mind her own business. Why does she care all of a sudden?

Elaine's thoughts were interrupted, like always. This time, she had bumped into a broad chest. The last time she ran into someone's chest it was her bully's.

Elaine looked up to see the figure was Luke. Why was he walking around her neighborhood at this time of night?

Elaine really didn't feel like talking to Luke, or anyone for that matter. Thinking about her mom put her in a bad mood. Plus, she wasn't feeling that great in the first place.

The pair was stopped underneath a streetlight. With one quick glance at Elaine's face, Luke saw her still-bloodshot eyes.

"Are you high Elaine?"

Jesus, she didn't avoid her mother just for Luke to turn into her.

"I'm fine, just go away." She said pushing past the now upset boy.

Elaine made up her mind quickly and decided to go home. Ignoring the calls from her mother, she went straight upstairs to her bed and fell asleep with an unsettled conscious.

The next day, Elaine woke up and did her morning routine and all of that jazz. She found her mother asleep on the living room couch and automatically felt a pang of regret for being so harsh and ignoring her, but she brushed the feeling off fairly easily.

Elaine walked up to school only to see Luke sitting on a bench outside of the large building. She hastily grabbed him by his t-shirt and pulled him around the corner into an alleyway by the school.

"Luke, why are you here?" she hissed, slightly looking upwards and his tall frame.

"Why were you high yesterday?" he sassily retorted while rolling his eyes.

She scoffed at that. Does he think that he has some "high power" over her?

Luke was confused and hurt by her sudden attitude change toward him.

"What is wrong with you? Why are you acting so weird? I know you, and this isn't you."

"Luke, stop with the questions, okay!?" Elaine yelled. Several heads turned to stare at her odd behavior. "Stop acting like you care! You don't even know me! So stop acting like you do!" She continued, staring directly into his blue eyes that were starting to look a little teary. "I'm different. I see things and I need an escape. So please leave me alone, you're just stressing me out more than I already am." Her voice had lowered by the end of her speech.

She ignored the weird stares she was getting and left an utterly bewildered and upset Luke standing alone in an alley.

a/n Elaine, stop acting like a bitch
