A slight dip at the end of her bed woke Elaine up the next morning.

The girl's mouth was completely parched and tasted like absolute shit. She tried opening her eyes, but it was as if there were weights forcing them to stay shut, and her left arm that was tucked underneath her body started to go numb- it was in the weird transition from feeling prickly into being wholly numb.

Instead of trying to fight these gross morning feelings, she rolled over and stuck her face into her soft, welcoming pillow, not wanting to face whoever was on the other side of her bed.

Honestly, she didn't really care who was there anyway.

A draining feeling consumed Elaine's body. It felt like nothing mattered anymore. Now that she thinks about it, nothing does. Like, why should she try anymore?

With Elaine's face still stuffed into her pillow, a large hand reached down to lightly pat her shoulder, "Elaine, wake up."

The quiet, yet still thick, Australian accent made it clear that Luke was the person next to her. That discovery made her want to disappear; Luke was the last person she wanted/needed to see at the moment.

Elaine incoherently grumbled some words out while her face was still buried deep into her white pillowcase. This made Luke lean in even more to try to catch what she was saying.

"I thought I told you to leave me alone?" were the words that Luke finally heard the eternally grumpy girl spit out.

However, this was not the response he was wishing to hear in coming to her house today. Luke was not anticipating her rudeness at all.

"Well I came over because I thought maybe you'd apologize or somethin', but that obviously won't happen..." The boy trailed off while rolling his eyes up at her low ceiling.

"Luke, I meant what I said, ok? Stay away from me. Seriously, how many times do I have to say that before it finally sticks in your head?"

The boy did not know why Elaine was acting so crude- maybe it was just her morning attitude, or perhaps she didn't get enough sleep last night. Whatever it was, Luke didn't know how to respond. He was really hoping for some type of apology and possibly a reconciliation hug.

"Uhh... I... Uhh." Now it was Luke's turn to make esoteric sounds; similar to the noises Elaine made while underneath her covers.

As much as it hurt Elaine- what she was going to say next had to be done.

"You seriously thought I cared about you? I was just talking to you because I was lonely. Now I have friend- a friend. I don't need you anymore, so piss off."

It was dangerously silent for a moment until Elaine added to her rant.

"I really don't need you anymore."

With those last few words words, Luke solemnly walked out of Elaine's house and down her street without looking back once.

The guilt within Elaine was tremendously building and she needed to get some of it off of her chest, so she went to her mom.

She stepped out of bed and went downstairs in hopes of finding her mother hanging out down there. After rounding the corner to the living room, Elaine found her mom sitting on their "family" couch.

Gingerly, Elaine cleared her throat and spoke up from behind her parent, "Hey mom," her voiced cracked slightly, "I know we haven't spoken in a while and I've been a shit daughter lately, so I've come down here to apologize."

Due to the fresh tears, the only sounds heard were the sniffles of both the mother's and the daughter's nose. It was only implied that they were both crying, for, they were still not facing each other. Elaine's mom said nothing, so Elaine took that as a signal to continue speaking.
