Chapter 10 // starting your job

I woke up on Wednesday morning with an overwhelming feeling of anxiety, that's when I remembered I start my job at the café tomorrow, I was excited but also so scared.

I try to distract myself and go on sims for a little while but I just couldn't shake the thought of how scary it was so I called Wilbur after a few rings he answers.

"Hey, y/n what's up" he said in a calm tone I couldn't help but smile to myself "hey will I was just wondering if you could come round" I said calmly trying not to make him think I'm stressed or anxious "O- of course are you sure nothing's wrong?" he asked in a polite tone "yeah I'm sure" I say still trying not to make him aware of my feelings "okay I'll be there in a couple minutes" he said "thank you will, see you in a bit" I said ending the phone call.

For some reason after the phone call I just burst into tears, maybe it was hiding my emotions that did it or maybe it was all the stress that got to me, I knew Wilbur would be here quick so I had to pull myself together and wipe my tears.

~Wilbur's POV~

As I walk up to y/n's door I wonder why she asked me to come to hers but I knock on the door  and wait for her to answer.

As she opens her front door I notice her eyes are red and puffy, she'd been crying I could tell. When she called me I could tell something was wrong it was like an instinct or something.
"Y/n what's wrong" I ask in a gentle tone, she bursts into tears there was clearly something on her mind "are you okay?" That was a stupid question I just asked she was crying in my arms "I'm so scared to start my job tomorrow" she said in a shaky teary voice "it's going to be okay, I promise you that, would you like me to meet you after your shift?" I asked her trying my hardest to reassure her "yes please that would really help" she said pressing her face against my chest.

"Okay I will, what do you want to do to distract yourself" I ask her in a gentle manner "the sims would be good" she said as she looked up at me "okay let's play the sims" I say rubbing her arm and I follow her up to her room.

~Your POV~

I tried so hard to keep my emotions together but when he asked me what was wrong I lost it and just started crying again. We went up to my room to play sims and distract myself, "you should try streaming y/n" Wilbur said in an endearing tone "really don't you think I'm too emotional for that" I said "no not at all you could just stream when you're off work and see if it takes off, I know my chat loves you" he said the sentence warmed your heart " they do?". "Yeah they want you to be in my streams more they said last night, they always ask how you are and where you are" he said a smile creeping onto his face "aww, I might then, would you help me set up" I said asking for help, I had no clue what to do. "Yeah of course I will, when do you want to set it up" he said happily "can we do it now" I questioned "yeah of course we can".

After we had finished setting up it was getting late it was 9pm and I had to wake up at 8am for my shift, I told Wilbur and he went home I said goodbye to him and went up to my bathroom, I hopped in the shower and did some skincare before getting into bed.

I laid there tossing and turning for an hour before I decided i couldn't sleep so I FaceTimed Wilbur "hello" he said his room well lit "hey will, I can't sleep" I said yawning "can we talk for a little" I continued "yeah" he said happily.

We were talking for an hour as I got sleepier and sleepier, eventually I fell asleep on call with him. I had set alarms to go off at 7 and 7:30am.

Although I woke up at 6am my alarms didn't get a chance to go off and I didn't bother trying to get back to sleep, I woke up and Wilbur was still on call with me he had fallen asleep at his desk, I needed to get ready for work so I ended the call as I didn't want to wake him up.

I sent him a message saying 'good morning you fell asleep on the phone with me, I'm getting ready for work I'll see you after my shift' I was somewhat scared for the day ahead but tried to remain optimistic about it, Wilbur had reassured me 1000 times this past week that it would be okay so I tried to believe it.

Before I knew it I was ready and going out the door, I decided to walk instead of driving just because it wasn't far from my house, I was looking forward to meet the people I would be working with.

You see someone at the till and say "hi it's my first day". "Ah you must be y/n, I'm the manager the woman you spoke with on the phone. My name is Michelle" she says in a confident tone "yes that's me, it's nice to meet you Michelle" I say shaking her hand "it's nice to meet you as well y/n" "let me show you around" she continued.

After she took me around the café the other employees came in "hey you must be the new worker im Astrid" she said "hi Astrid im y/n, it's nice to meet you" i say as she smiles "hey nice to meet you y/n I'm Caitlin" she says with a big smile " it's nice to meet you too" I say smiling back, "Astrid works in the back and you and Caitlin work on the till and make drinks" Michelle says smiling at us all.

Caitlin opened the shop at 8:30 and we got to work the morning went really slow, we didn't get many customers but around midday 12pm we had tonnes of people in, I didn't work well under pressure I could feel myself panicking but I controlled my breathing in counts of 4 In between each breath, just how Wilbur tells me to.

Eventually I get my thoughts together and I'm doing great "hey y/n since it's calmed down you can go on your break" Caitlin said with a smile on her face "thank you" I say smiling back, you go to the back and check the time it was 3pm i finish in 2 hours.

I messaged Wilbur letting him know how it was going and how lovely the other employees were, I realised it was time for me to get back out there so I take a deep breath and turn my phone off and get back out there.

The next 2 hours were slow and a few customers came in every 30 minutes, as I look at the time I realise i finish in 2 minutes, I finish serving the last customer of my shift and head to the back to grab my stuff, I say goodbye to Astrid and Caitlin as I leave.

When I walk outside I see Wilbur waiting for me, I give him a smile. I was so happy to see him "so y/n how did it go" he said excited to hear about how it was "it was great everyone is so lovely there" I said happy "that's amazing, I told you you could do it" he said happiness filling his voice "so... I was wondering if you want to be on my stream tonight, like in person" he said nervous for your reply...
