Forgiveness isn't easy - chapter 25 ४

You decide to follow Steve.. he's headed towards his bedroom. He hasn't noticed you're right behind him as he walks in. Just as he's about to shut the door you place your foot just in time. He turns around with tears in his eyes.

"Not now y/n" he mutters quietly.

You walk over and slowly sits down on his bed..  "yes Steve now.."

"You've already explained it, what more is there to say" he exclaims. He's infuriated. Like you've never experienced before.

"Yes I've explained it, but you haven't been listening to me. You've decided I've gone mad" you fight to keep your voice calm.. to not get flustered.. You owe that to him. Steve shrugs as he turns around and opens the door, he's leaving. "Wait please... give me a chance" you yell out. Steve leans against the door. He stands in silence for a second. But it feels like forever...

"Y/n! You cheated on me for gosh sake!" He's screaming at you. But you try your best to not let it get to you. Yet you can't help but flinch at his words.

"I know... I'm the biggest idiot on the planet" you admit... "I wish there was any way for me to make this up to you..." you mutter calmly..

"There isn't y/n... I did everything for you" he points out.. you let your head drop to your hands.

"The way you loved Peggy.. that was never how you loved me.. and you only kissed her once... ONCE Steve"

"So what! you just kissed Loki to punish me for loving Peggy?" He asks

You stand back up as you try to catch any sign of what he's thinking... but it's a mess up there.. he doesn't even know what he's feeling.

"It's not to punish you... I kissed him because I have feelings for him" you admit.. not just to him.. but you admit it to yourself as well.

"I thought you loved me..." he mumbles.. as he slides down against the door frame.. you sit down in front of him. Keeping your distance to give him a little space.

"I do love you, but not in the way I feel for him.. I think I finally found the love you had for Pe-"

"Don't you dare talk to me about Peggy!" He interrupts you. "You don't know how I loved her.." his voice grows weak.

"You keep a picture of her in your pocket at all times...even after all these years" you exclaim.. he reaches his hand into his front pocket and holds the compass tightly.

"And he really makes you feel happy?" He asks

You simply nod your head.. he closes his eyes as a tears falls from his eye. He quickly wipes it away.

"I mean loki..? Out of all people why him?"

"I don't know... it just happened. I tried to fight it. We both did"

He reaches out for your hand and squeezes it gently.
"It's just to hard right now y/n.." he says as he lets go of your hand and opens the door.

"I am truly sorry..."

Steve stands quietly in the door frame for a second, his back turned against you. He hesitantly turns his head slowly towards you...

"I'll always love you Steve... you're my best friend" your voice breaks as you speak.

"You're my best friend too... I need time....Please just go" he whispers. He clenches his jaw.. as he steps out of the way..

You stand up and walks past him in the door frame. Your body's barely touching as you move past him. Once you're out of the room he shuts the door behind you..
