XVI. Nothing New

WHEN Vaughn told her that he is free for a lunch date after he finishes his meeting with her father, Gold had no choice but to face the fact that she will see her father again for the second time after their fiasco when she left their residence. Coding ang kotse niya kaya't nagbu-book lang siya ng Grab ngayong araw, pati na rin ay nagsabi ang binata na ito na ang bahala na ipag-drive siya.

Ang sabi sa kanya ni Vaughn bago ito umalis ng mansyon niya matapos nitong biglaang dumating kagabi, pupunta raw ang binata sa opisina ng kumpanya ng kanyang ama dahil magmi-meeting ang mga ito tungkol sa hotel project, kasama na roon ang mga kapatid niyang sina Kali at Kaleb. Despite doing her best to avoid her father at all costs, it seems that Gold really cannot control when or where they should see each other.

Kung tutuusin ay wala naman siyang pakealam kung magkita silang muli. Noong nagkita naman sila sa site nang sunduin ang mga kapatid para sa lunch date nila, wala namang ibang sinabi ang ama. O baka pinili lang nitong manahimik dahil ayaw nitong makita ng mga business partners nito na hindi maayos ang relasyon nilang dalawa. Her father cares too much about his image and the company's, so he won't easily snap in front of other people, especially his business partners and investors.

Gold went out the elevator on the same floor where the project meeting was being held. Vaughn texted her na tapos na raw ang meeting nito kaya nagpasya siyang pumasok na sa loob, tutal wala namang masama kung papasok siya roon dahil naroon naman ang mga kapatid niya at si Vaughn.

Huli na nang makita ng dalaga na ang tanging tao na lamang na naiwan sa conference room ay walang iba kundi ang kanyang ama. Her father was arranging the documents in front of him when he looked up to see who opened the door, and to his surprise, Gold stood there.

She stood still by the door frame, the door left open and her feet not moving forward nor backward.

"H-Hello, Dad," bati niya sa ama. "Uh... nasaan si Vaughn?"

Her dad took the documents and stood up then said, "He went out, Kara. I'm surprised you're here. Akala ko ay hindi ka na tatapak dito sa kumpanya."

"Don't get my presence here wrong, Dad. I'm only here today for Vaughn and to see my brothers," sagot niya. "My answer still stands. I don't want to work for the company nor inherit your throne. And I will not go back to your house."

"Won't you give this company a chance, Kara?" her father sighed. "Sigurado ka bang mabubuhay ka ng pag-style mo ng mga artista at modelo?"

Gold sarcastically smiled. "Well obviously, nabubuhay ako ng trabaho ko, Dad. Nakapagpundar pa nga ako ng sarili kong bahay. When you doubted me and my capabilities, all I did was strive and rise. Not for you or Mom, but for myself."

"We do not support this bullshit of a hobby, Kara Gold. We do not approve of this!" he exclaimed. Lumakad ito palapit sa kanya. "You will soon realize that you made the wrong decision. You will soon regret, Kara."

"Well, that's not new for me. Dad, I am not seeking your approval nor support. I will stand on my own kahit hindi niyo ako suportado," sagot niya rito. "Give the CEO position to either Kaleb or Kali, I don't give a fuck."

"You don't curse in front of your father, Kara! Wala ka na bang ni katiting na respeto para sa amin ng Mommy mo? We did not raise you to be this rebellious, bratty girl! Wala kaming anak na walang direksyon ang buhay!"

"Then from now on, Dad, consider me as a stranger. Pagod na akong sumunod sunod na lang sa gusto niyo, pagod na akong humingi ng understanding from you! You and Mom never supported me! Both of you never loved me! You only saw me as the heiress to your throne, a money making child!" sigaw ni Gold. Wala na siyang pake kung may ibang makarinig sa away nila ng kanyang ama.
