Samirah's POV
As I exited the boutique where I had just bought some clothes,I sighted a farmiliar figure from a reasonable distance.
I held tight to my bag and ran to where the figure was.
I just stood in shock and suprise as i sighted my best friend.
It had been ages since we had spoken and I knew very well that I was the reason for that.
I had promised to visit and keep in touch, but I broke my promises and I'm pretty sure she was busy with all the wife
stuff that she had no time to call."Hauwa!!!" I jumped on her making her bend to one side.
Once I pulled back, a confused look was plastered on her face as if she had just met a complete stranger.
"Hi? Umm...do I know you?" A thin and polite smile crept on her face as she held tight to a stroller where two little babies
were in.
I cleared my throat and chuckled a little. "I know I haven't been checking up on you,but that is not enough to pretend you
don't know me."
"Well, I really don't remember knowing you, so if you could introduce yourself, I guess that might help."I swallowed a huge lump of saliva.
What was happening?
Why was she acting like she didn't know me?"Samirah's the name, We were best friends Hauwa, until you got married and we like kinda lost touch." I tried explaining.
Hauwa exhaled heavily.
"Okay? So,I was involved in some sort of accident and I lost part of my memory, I am so sorry that I can't remember you."My mouth was left hanging open.
"Here's my number if you want to hang out sometime," She handed me a tiny card. "I carry it for emergencies." Her smile
still felt warm as always.
She turned around to start walking, but i stopped her by calling her name.
"Yes?" She turned her head over her shoulder.
"Are those your kids?" I wanted to clear my doubts.
"Yes, they are my kids, Noor and Sabih," She replied. "bye."
"Bye, and sorry once again for not congratulating you on your childrens birth." I kind of yelled so she could hear me.How time flies.
Memory lose,
Kids.WOW!!!
Yaseer's POV
"Yo bro," Amar and I did a handshake. "Long time no see."
Amar settled down on one of the office chairs in my front.
"So how have you been?" Amar asked with his legs crossed and hands on his knee.
"I have been great bro, but stressed out lately, you know, work and helping my wife with the kids."I shook my head.
"How bout you? Work?"
"Work's moving well and going steady as planned."
There was an awkward silence in the room for about two minutes until Amar finally cleared his throat.
"So, I wanna talk to you about something."
"Nice, Go on." I continued what I was doing on my laptop.
Amar adjusted himself on the chair.
"You know, lately I've been thinking of something that I think might be good for both you and I," He sipped from the glass
of water that I had offered him earlier. "I know Hauwa is your wife, but I think you should divorce her." He said at once. The sound of me pressing hard on the space bar on my keyboard followed after Amar's unexpected statement.
I shifted my gaze to him.
"Why?"
"She deserves someone better, I don't mean it the way you're thinking, but I want you to let go of Hauwa." He answered.I slowly rose up from my leather chair and walked to where Amar sat.
"Yaseer, I loved Hauwa way before you even met her." Amar stared deep into my eyes.
I kept mute.
"She also loves me,so stop pretending you love her and just let her go."
As those words left his mouth, i grabbed him by his collars.
"I care for my wife and kids and I love them with all of my heart, so don't you dare utter any rubbish again."
A smirk crept on Amar's face.
"You care for her you say?" He let out a small laugh. "Where were you when she was raped? huh? where were you? do you still
claim to love her? Yaseer, Where were you when she got attacked and lost her memory?"
I was silent as I stared at Amar with pure wrath in my eyes.
"I have been silent enough! I have watched the love of my life suffer in your hands!!" He threw my hands off his shirt.
"She's so innocent Yaseer, please let go of her and let her live a peaceful life like she did before she ever knew you."
"SHUT UP!!! Just SHUT up!" I pointed at Amar who just laughed.
" I know the truth is always bitter cousin..." before he could finish his sentence, I turned around and punched him hard
on his cheek making him salvate blood.
He held his cheek and stared at the thick blood on his palm before looking at me.
"I never came here with the intention of fighting, but since you've started it, why don't we continue?"Amar slapped me with
both his palms with my face in the middle. "I've loved Hauwa since we were in secondary school,I can't let some guy from my
family come and take her away while ruining her entire life."
Amar walked to the wall and began hitting his fist on it continuosly with so much force.
"Amar,You have to get a grip of yourself,Hauwa is going no way! I love her and so does she and we will stay together
forever." I made my opinion clear.
Amar turned aprubtly and walked to me.
We were just an inch apart.
"Just watch and see,Hauwa will leave you soon and i'll just sit back and watch everything unravel before you, don't say
I didn't warn you, so make a wise decision before you're filled with regrets."Amar pulled out a tissue from the tissue box on my desk to wipe his mouth.
I just laughed and said "I never knew there was this part of you Amar."
"Now that you know, make the right choice for your well being."He flung the tissue stained with his blood on the floor
before exiting my office casually.
I sat back on my chair, closed my eyes tightly and screamed so loud internally.Safiya's POV
As Umma typed away on her phone, I kept thinking about whether to tell Umma about what Ya Amir have been up to lately or not.
When I had finally made up my mind,I turned towards Umma.
"Umma," I couldn't look at her in the eyes."I want to tell you something."
"Go on."She didn't look away from her phone.
I swallowed a huge lump of saliva which seemed to be hard.
I took in few breaths silently before saying in one breath."Ya Amir is into illegal drugs that is why he always comes home late,Umma I saw it with my own eyes." I exhaled.
Umma dropped her phone and turned to me.
"Safiya, what are you saying? Your brother would never do that,He knows the kind of family he comes from." Umma didn't seem to believe me.
"Wallahi,I have proof Umma,I can prove it." I stood up to get the packet of cocaine I had taken from Ya Amir's room.
When I came to the living room, I stretched out my hand to give Umma the white substance that was packed in a transparent nylon.
Umma reluctantly collected the nylon and examined it.
She confirmed it was cocaine just like I did.
I saw as Umma's blood boiled as she had her non-joking face on.
I knew it wouldn't end well, but it was for the best.Later in the night, Ya Amir arrived as usual.
He had just entered the living room while saying his Tasleem when Umma asked "Where are you coming from?"
Ya Amir looked behind him to see if Umma was talking to him.
"Amir, I won't repeat myself."Umma stared at nothing in particular.
Ya Amir had a brow up and replied more like a question."Work?"
Umma shifted her gaze to Ya Amir.
"Amir why are you into drugs?"
I saw Ya Amir's face turn cold.
"Drugs? what do you mean?" He tried to play dumb.
"I mean this packet of cocaine!" Umma snapped while holding the packet of cocaine.I knew it was no play when I heard the tone of her voice.
Ya Amir was silent.
"Am I not talking to you?!" Umma rose up.
She was really mad.
"I don't know anything about that cocaine or whatever that is." Ya Amir shrugged his shoulder and proceeded to the hallway.
Umma followed and so did I.
"Amir, one last time, I will ask you this one last time, why are you doing drugs?"
Ya Amir suddenly stopped walking and turned to Umma.
"For heaven's sake,I already said I have no idea of what you're talking about," Ya Amir spoke confidently. "I just came back from work and I
deserve some rest, please do you mind?" He spoke rudely to Umma.
My heartbeat increased.
What was going to happen next?
I felt my adrenaline rush into my blood stream.
Before the twinkle of an eye, Umma had already walked to where Ya Amir stood and gave him a striking slap that could be heard two houses from
ours.
"I never knew you'd turn out like this!"Tears gathered in Umma's eyes." Dealing with cocaine?! What else are you up to that you're also hiding? huh?
sleeeping around with ladies? armed robbery? Come on, lie! look into my eyes and tell me you don't sell drugs?!" Umma held onto Ya Amir's shirt.
It was like I was in a nightmare.
"Umma..." Ya Amir began.
"No need to explain anything! You're leaving this house this instance! I don't care where you go or what you do with your life, but I can't
be living under the same roof with a drug dealer...This is not the child I raised, Amir you've brought shame to your father and I."Umma sniffed.Ya Amir tried talking, but Umma refused to listen to anything and just pulled him to the front door.
"Umma, please don't...please." tears had accumulated in my eyes.
Our family was now falling apart.
With all my begging falling on deaf ears, Umma opened the front door and pushed Ya Amir out while throwing the packet of cocaine at him.
Without hesitation,Umma locked the door afterwards.
She fell on her knees and buried her face in her palms before starting a round of cry.
I bent down beside her and wrapped my arms around her trying to comfort her even though tears were also rolling from my eyes.
