This was the third time in three days that the notification sound had went off on Hauwa's phone from an unknown number.

With a big frown on her face she grasped her phone and unlocked it.

"Huh?" She squeezed her face even more as she went through every single word that composed the message.

Hauwa had been receiving even more strange messages about her husband from an unknown number.

She had tried to get her mind off the messages, but all she could do all day was think about what the messages entailed.

She grabbed her phone and sped walked into Yaseer's study.

"Could you explain this?" She sled her phone on his desk and settled down on one of the chairs in front of him.

Yaseer slowly raised his gaze from his laptop screen and looked at his wife.
"What's that?"
Hauwa was silent.
"Hello." He waved his hand in her face to see if she was still conscious.

"Yaseer read those messages and answer my question."she had her arms across her chest this time.

Yaseer saw no joke in her eyes, so he held back a joke he was about to blurt out and gently grasped her phone.

Before reading the messages, he looked at Hauwa and asked, "Am I in trouble?"

Hauwa gave an eye roll.

He began reading the messages, and you could hear his breathing seize unexpectedly in the dead silent room.

After he read the last word, he dropped the phone back on the desk and stared at Hauwa.

She stared at him too.

They looked at each other's eyes without uttering a word.

It was like they were communicating via their eyes.

"Explain!" Hauwa broke their supposed eye communication.

"What should I explain?"his eyes never left hers.

Hauwa got up from her position and began pacing the study from one end to the other with her hands on her hips.
"This isn't the first time I've received such messages. I feel there's something you're hiding from me, Yaseer." She looked him deep in the eyes after uttering his name.

"Why would I hide anything from you?" He managed to say. "You aren't even supposed to be worried about such petty things."

Hauwa let out a small dramatic laugh.
"Petty you say,"she paused." Those messages say you've been involved in murder, rape and all sort of illicit acts and you think that's petty?"

Yaseer stood up too.

"Why would you believe the messages though?"he placed his hands on her shoulders.

Shiver travelled down Hauwa's spine as his cold hands came in contact with her skin.

"Why wouldn't I believe them though?" She removed his hands from her and walked back to her former position.

With legs crossed, Hauwa held her temples.

"Yaseer I'm really not a fool and I know something's off. You better start talking while you still have the time."

Yaseer wasn't ready to give in.

Not anytime soon though.

"What should I say?"

"I should be asking what do you have to say."

"Baby girl, you really don't have to worry about these things. Anyone could start some random rumor about me to ruin my name."Yaseer said.

"You're lieing! I know for a fact that you're lieing! I don't know what about though, but Yaseer there's something you're keeping from me." Her voice sounded deeper than before.

"Can we just throw this you know I'm lieing stuff away and focus on reality?" He made air quotes with his fingers.

"What if those messages are reality?" She looked at Yaseer this time.

Yaseer avoided her eye contacts.

"Fine! Believe whatever phone messages you're getting than believe me!" His tone sounded more like a snap.

"You feel, you think, you know, go with all that. Just go with all that and believe them." Yaseer added.

Hauwa shot a glare at him.

"Yaseer, I hate lies! How could I have been receiving messages about this for about two months now, from a number I know nothing about and you say it's nothing?!"

Hauwa's suspicions grew every second.

"What's the point of us being married if you don't trust me?!"

"Don't try using emotional blackmail on me! We aren't talking about trust here! Just explain what's going on! Why do I keep getting these messages about you killing people, assaulting and all sort of things? Huh? Yaseer answer me!" Hauwa walked to her husband making them only an inch apart.

"You know what, I don't want to say anything again because you don't listen!"

"I don't listen? What have you said Yaseer? What exactly? Because if I can remember vividly, you haven't said anything that answers my questions since I confronted you about this issue."

Yaseer massaged his temples.
"There's no issue. Hauwa, I really don't want to argue, not today." He was about to leave his study.

Hauwa walked up to him before he could step a foot out.

"You're just going to leave like that?" She asked.

"Yes, I'm just going to leave like that Hauwa." He replied with his back facing Hauwa before exiting the study.

Hauwa was left dumbfounded.

What was her husband hiding?

He said he wasn't hiding anything, but why did she have a strong feeling that he was hiding something?

Life was getting even harder at this point.

Harder than she had ever imagined.
