What's up. I'm Chase. I'm in seventh grade, and I've got a few friends. I'm doing pretty okay this year. Joey and Tom are doing pretty well, too. They're my best friends. We do everything together.
I, for one, love to play the drums. I've got a drum set and a set of sticks at home, and I use it almost every minute of the day. It's my talent, you know? So, I'm part of the school band, and of course I play the drums. But just that puny snare isn't enough. I need a whole big set like mine to play. So, naturally, I'm horrible in band class. And, if you're horrible, you get put in the back of the stage during concerts and stuff. Which is where I stand with a bunch of losers who never learned how to play their instruments. Like, there's this one guy who plays the trumpet, and whenever he blows into that thing, it sounds like a dying duck. Horrible, right? That's what I have to deal with. But, at least I've got friends.
Unlike some other people. I heard that there was one girl who's never had friends since sixth grade. Pathetic, right? I'm glad I've got Joey and Tom.
Anyway, there was something about this friendless girl that smelled fishy to me. I mean, who can have no friends? So, a couple days ago, I found it in the bottom of my heart to sit with her. It turns out, there's this other girl that sits with her, too. I think she might be that new girl everyone's talking about.
~Flashback~
"Tom, Joey," I say, and we huddle up at lunch. "Let's go sit with those 2 girls over there. It seems like they've got no friends. It would be horrible not to have friends, right? Think about it."
Tom and Joey nod in agreement. "Let's go," they say, and we approach the table. As soon as we get there, we pause before we sit down, as if waiting for their approval. The brown haired girl with glasses says, "Can we help you?"
We all just kind of look perplexed, like we don't know what to say. Then, the other girl looks up.
"Well, if you don't have anything to say, then can you just leave? It's kinda hard to eat lunch when there's three boys staring at you." she says.
Finally, I find it in my right mind to speak.
"Uh, we were just wondering if we could sit here, right, guys?" I say, and Tom and Joey nod. "I mean, well only be here for today. It's just that our table's full today."
Joey and Tom look at me in confusion, giving me a stare that says, Our table's not that crowded!
Ok. I was kind of lying. But I was kind of right in not stating the real reason why we're here. I mean, who comes up to someone's table and says, "Here, let me sit with you because you're friendless? Nobody, that's who.Anyway, it turned out not to be that bad. We talked about what we liked to do. The brown haired girl with glasses was Claire, and Leia was the other, a girl with short black hair and dark, dark eyes, like they could suck you in right then and there. Leia liked to play guitar, and Claire liked to read. I think Claire's a little shy though, and it seems like she's hiding something.
Anyway, I told them that I played the drums. And that was all. Lunch came to an end, and that was that. But what I didn't know was that our conversation would help an idea in someone's mind to grow and make me and other people do things that kids dream of doing.
