Deadlox: Raising the Dead, age 12

Hello, I'm Deadlox or Ty. Please call me Ty, it's easier to say. I'm just gonna tell you straight out; I'm not a normal kid.

While other children had useless powers, like attracting butterflies and killing flies, I could raise the dead. All kinds of the dead, from all different periods of time. Whoever was buried in the area, I could reanimate the corpse and talk to them; even have them fight and protect me. I don't know why I can do this, but it's helpful when I need help on my homework. I could also see ghosts, but they were just plain annoying.

I kick a rock as I walk down the path, my single red eye darting left to right nervously. Since I had this power that was actually useful, I had to keep quiet about it since I didn't want a secret lab or something trying to experiment on me.

I spot a bench, and I rush over to it and sit down. I looked around the park I was in, smiling as the smell of oak wood and pine filled my nose. I loved the park, so peaceful, so calm, and so full of the dead. I put my headphones up around my ears and turn them on, putting on some music to listen to. I close my eyes and lay back my head, smiling at the calming music pours from my headphones into my ears and resonating in my brain. My ghostly friend, Sub, keeps watch for bullies.

I feel him tug on my white shirt, and I open my eyes and look around, shutting off my headphones as I did so I could hear properly. I could see Kyle approaching me, flanked by Bill and Ben. The normal bullies for the evening, since everyone thought I was a kid with no powers, or one so bad there was no point to having it.

"Hey look, it's the loser! You're not getting away today!" I turn on my heel, pick up my bag, and run into the forest as fast as I could. I always lost the bullies here, running up a tree and summoning some dead people to scare them off.

I look around for a good tree, but the tree cutters had gotten to this part of the woods so only small trees were left. I was at the fence, cornered.

"Finally, we got you this time!" I turn around, narrowly dodging a punch to the face. I had nowhere to run, how could I get out of this?

"C'mon Ty-the-powerless! Show us your power, if you even have one!" I dodge a kick, my eyes narrowing. If these guys wanted to see my powers, then so be it.

I flick my wrist, focusing on the undead around the area. I smile as bodies start to claw themselves out of the ground, surrounding the bullies. I put on my headphones, blasting rock as I order the undead to kill them. I wince as the boys are torn apart, that was probably the most painful way I could've condemned them to die. It was the most fitting though, I could now order them around if I so choose.

I turn off my headphones once I was sure the screams were done, hearing sirens. I formed a plan, getting on my hands and knees and scrambling over to the fence and pressing my back against it. The police came, and one walked over to me.

"Do you know who did this kid?" I shake my head, "I-It was the und-dead! They came out of nowhere!" The policeman nod, telling the others.

"Get out of the park kid, you were lucky to survive, and there's no doubt that there are more." I nod, grabbing my bag and scrambling to my feet. Once I get far enough away, I laugh.

Finally I had a way to free myself.

I was in my room, mentally preparing myself for what was to come. I had sent my mom a text, asking her to come to my room once she was back from work. Just my mom, I had no siblings and my father had died a long time ago. My mother treated me fairly well, she was just always away at work, trying to support us both.

I heard the slam of the front door, and the clicking of her high-heels on the steps. I look up at her when she quietly opens the door.

"Ty... honey are you in here? Is everything all right sweetie?" I nod, taking a deep breath.

"Mum, remember when I told you that I didn't have a power?" I ask quietly, awaiting her reply.

"Yeah I remember honey, what of it? You know I will always love you right?" I nod, "Yeah, well, it was a lie." I hear her intake of air, and a happy squeal following it.

"Oh honey! That's great! What is it? What can you do dear?" I stand up, guesturing for her to follow me. I walk outside, and I stand in the middle of the yard. I look over at Sub, and he nods. I smile, flicking my wrist.

I watch as the undead clamber out of the ground, turning to face my scared mother.

"T-Ty? This... is what you can do...?" I nod, looking at the ground. I make the dead go back into the ground, scared at what my mother's reaction would be. It was worse then what I imagined, she just ran inside the house.

I walk in behind her, barely closing the door before I heard the gunshot. I gasp at the feeling of a bullet entering my body and leaving. My mom had shot my shoulder clean through, not hitting anything important.

"M-Mom...?!" I look at the woman, she was holding a pistol, aiming at my head.

"The next one is through your head. Now get out, you're no son of mine." I sigh, I had prepared myself for this. I could feel my crimson eye start to glow, and I make the undead climb out of the ground.

"I'm sorry mom. But I can't let you do that." I put on my headphones, taking a deep breath.

"Kill her."

Soft classical goes through my headphones as I watched them tear apart my mother.
