After School
I breathe in a breath of relief when Jerome and I exit the school, the sunshine warming my face.
It's really hot... Jerome complains, making me laugh.
It ain't that bad biggums, you just have fur. I reply, and Jerome's golden eyes meet mine, an annoyed frown on his face.
So, homework and then meet up at the tree where I almost smashed your head in with a rock? Jerome asks, making me laugh at the memory of 7 or 8 hours ago.
Yeah, sounds good. See you in about 4, 5 hours?
Yeah, be at the tree by 9.
I nod, looking around at the empty back parking lot. I spot, hear, and smell no one nearby, even asking Jerome to double check.
You're fine. What are you going to do? I give Jerome a small smirk, already feeling the elongated fangs of my chosen animal growing.
You'll see. I focus on the wings specifically, feeling the black feathers sprout from my shoulder blades and wrap around me as I hunched over; giving the giant black angel wings enough room to grow. I let out a groan as the jagged edge of the wing-bone emerged last, jerking my entire back along with it.
I finally stand up straight after a good couple minutes, giving my overall 10 foot wingspan an experimental flap before taking off into the air.
"See you at 9, Jerome!" I yell down at him, waving before disappearing into the clouds. The moisture of the giant, white fluff balls made my clothes damp and plastered my hair to my head; but the view was worth it.
I was soaring over an ocean of clouds, the air thin and cool but my enlarged lungs making it easy to draw breath. The sky above me was slightly orange at the edges, the sun above me. I turned onto my back, my face looking up at the endless sky, the barest hint of stars appearing in my sharp eyes.
I dragged my bare hands through the clouds as I flew above them, my bag resting on my stomach. I scan the skies, looking for something airplanes so I could dodge them and freak out the pilots by waving at them.
Hell, maybe I could get them to crash into the school.
I sigh, ducking down back underneath the clouds. I swoop down towards the trees, my wings spread wide open to allow me to glide gracefully down to an "abandoned" tribe of tree houses.
Abandoned as in I killed them all.
I land on one of the wooden walkways, walking into the hut I had claimed as my room and kitchen. I walk into the kitchen, the old blood splatter on the floor catching my eyes again. I side step it, trying to avoid getting it on the bottom of my shoe.
I don't know why I had claimed this house. It was the last one I had walked into, and it had been putrid when I first walked in. There were two bodies half-burned and shoved into the fire place; one with their head dented in and the other with multiple stab wounds. The kitchen was splattered with blood, and the couch had blood splattered on it as well.
I couldn't believe how brutal some people could be.
I sit down at the kitchen table, pulling out my Calculus 7 homework. I groan when I look at the first warm-up question, already figuring this was going to be a long couple hours.
