Setosorcerer: Nature Control, age 12

Whats up? I’m Seto, nothing else, don’t call me Jimmy.

I was just sitting in the backyard, watching mother’s flowers grow. Normally, that would be boring and no one would ever be able to see anything.

But I’m not like most people.

While other people had useless powers that did jack shit, I could control nature. I know it sounds lame initially, but if you think about it it’s actually a pretty scary thought. I can control everything natural, from trees to metal. If it came from, well… anywhere, I can control it.

So that’s what I was doing now, making mother’s flowers grow the way she wanted them. My family didn’t know I had this ability, nobody did. I knew what the government was like, going crazy after the war after all. If it ever got out that I wasn’t normal, they’d experiment on me to try and inject my powers into soldiers to make super soldiers.

“Seto! Dinner’s in half an hour! Just letting you know!” I nod, “Yes Mom!” I yell back.

“I’m going to go into the woods, I’ll be back by dinner!” she nods, and I dash into the forest. I wrap my purple cloak around me, pulling the hood up to shadow my face. I look around, smiling when I don’t see anyone.

I have the branches of a tree bend down and wrap around me, lifting me up into my treehouse. I look at the clock, I had about 27 minutes before dinner. I’d head back 5 minutes before I was due back, meaning 22 minutes were for pure enjoyment.

I pull out a piece of metal, focusing on it.

“C’mon… bend…” I was trying to make a piece of gold into a new button for my cloak, and I was almost done. I just needed to finish the clasp and I could make the fabric attach itself to the button; making it brand new.

I smile as I finally got the metal into the correct shape, and I attach it to my cloak. I look at the time, I had 8 minutes left. Might as well head back…

I jump from the tree house, grass catching me as I fell. I heard a gasp come from a tree behind me, a person; what if they tell someone!? Branches of the tree snatch the person and bring them to me, I grab the person’s neck, my eyes starting to glow red from anger. It was Miley, a girl from my class. Unlike everyone else, she didn’t really bully me. In fact, she really never had anything to do with me.

“Miley, you cannot tell anyone about what you just saw… I’ll be killed if you do.” She was shaking, her bright blue eyes showing fear.

“Y-You’re a monster! Of course I’m going to tell everyone! You need to be killed!” I stare in shock at the girl as she ran away, and I react on pure instinct.

Tree roots rip themselves out of the ground, grabbing her arms and legs, vines shoot out from trees and wrap around her neck and head, and grass traps her feet. I don’t consider the consequences of my action, I make the plants tear her apart.

I watch as the blood splatters everywhere, body parts splayed all over the ground. I look at my watch, setting off towards home. I couldn’t be late to dinner after all.

A murderer has to have priorities.

I was walking across the tree tops, the branches acting like a moving floor that kept me from hitting the ground.

“Seto! Come on dear, where are you?” I spy my mother on the ground, unable to see me. I drop to the ground behind her, barely making a sound.

“I’m right here mother, what do you need?” I ask, putting a hand on her shoulder. She turns around, fear etched in her eyes.

“Listen, I’m giving you up for adoption. I just can’t stand everyone excluding me because of you, everybody pinning Miley’s murder on us. So I’m getting rid of you.” I stare at my mother, shaking in anger. My own mother was giving me up… because of damn popularity?! Yeah I killed Miley… but still! No one knew, and my mom thought I was incapable of harming a fly, so it shouldn’t matter whether I was here with her or not!

I could feel my eyes start to glow red, and I made a decision. The earth opens up underneath her, swallowing her up to her neck.

“Goodbye mom, you should know better than to try and give me up.” I clench my fist, making the earth contract; crushing her before she could even scream. I smile, heading back to the house.

I had to pack now, can’t live here anymore.

After all, a murderer has to have an open world.
