vanilla sighed as she looked at her scrapbook

sighing in happiness at the memories gathered with her daughter, her friends and more

only for the calm atmosphere to be disrupted by a sudden crashing sound from outside her house

she was going to ignore it but the commotion seemed to continue

closing the book she looked out her window to see something very surprising

espio the chameleon, the resident ninja of the chaotixs agency

and the one making the noise as he stomped up the pavement, looking quite miffed as he kicked the pavement, kicking rocks where they banged into the bins although he did kick them too, head too busy on the floor

and so with worried curiosity and care, she decided to see what was wrong with the teenager

"espio?" Vanilla called out as she opened her front door in hopes to catch the chameleon before he continued on his way

her voice seemed to cause the chameleon almost jump out of his skin before looking back at the new voice

"oh, miss Vanilla" Espio stuttered in surprise

aside from that the rabbit rarely saw

actually, to her recollection, she didn't know that much about the ninja, as ironic as it was but she had met with vector on his own, charmy when playing with cream but never had a one to one with the chameleon

perhaps this was an opening for that

"Sorry, I was lost in my thoughts, I didn't realise how far I walked" Espio informed sheepishly

"oh no, it is quite alright dear, I was just looking over some scrapbooks, but then I heard a ruckus when I saw you coming up, you seem distressed" Vanilla explained with a smile, but slowly changing her tone to a more attentive

"oh, no I'm fine-" espio began to wave before the older rabbit cut him off

"espio I am a mother, my instincts do not lie, so please come in so we can talk" Vanilla offered whilst not believing the chameleon's excuses, and she wanted to help anyways

espio couldn't help but feel himself being drawn into the house by the "request" and was soon being directed inside the house

in actuality he had never been inside, he usually stayed outside whilst he picked up charmy from his playdates with cream or he and his team would be outside to enjoy a picnic with the rabbit family and sometimes a surprise visit from Amy Rose

"now, make your safe comfortable, I will go make us some tea" Vanilla commented as she ushered him towards the sofa, which is where she left him to sit as she prepared some snacks and beverages

"I have some green tea, I believe this is that is your favourite" Vanilla called from the kitchen

"y, yes, it is thank you Ms Vannilla, would you like me to help?" Espio asked with genuine that a person remembered one of his favourite things, but didn't want to think he was a mooch

"oh no you sit down, the teas are already prepared" Vannnilla reassured as she re-entered with a tray of tea and some of her biscuits she had made yesterday

"so then" Vanilla began as she brought the tray onto the table and herself onto the sofa next to espio

"what has caused you to become so heavy-hearted" Vanilla finished as she picked up the teacups and handed one to the chameleon who graciously took it out of her hand
