"Espio, I have something I want to express" Shadow began as the two had found a secluded private area to speak

the two since working together against Eggman had discovered that they had a lot in common

enjoying the quieter side of the world compared to the rest of the party

the ninja never gets intimidated, always stands his ground but never results to brute strength, using his mind and morals to win arguments

fighting was always a constant, but espio made it look so elegant that it seemed more like a dance, something the hedgehog had a hard time looking away from at points

the two engage with stories and interests

the chameleon was even able to get a singular chuckle out of the ebony hedgehog

Shadow had never had such interest nor enjoyment with anyone since coming to earth, he loved the times simply spending time with the chameleon

yet he wanted more

he wanted to spend more time with him

open up further with trust and support

and most surprisingly, he wanted to hold him

they had done it every now and then when performing the perfect combination of fighting skills

but when they spent hours talking, the chameleon sitting close where their sides were practically touching, he didn't want that practically to be a part of that interaction

and thus Shadow built up his confidence as he looked to the chameleon, looking into the distance as the consistent wind blew leaves against his figure

"espio" Shadow began, bringing that attention directly onto the hedgehog

those beautiful golden eyes looking into his blood-coloured orbs

and so with a deep sigh, he began

"During our time together, I have come to realise I, have developed strong feelings for you, I have never felt this way about anyone and I wish to take this relationship to a higher level" Shadow explained, the perfect sentence without hesitance as he had been practising it for practically 2 weeks now

and here and now would be the final results

Espio's bright golden eyes were wide and their mouth just as such

he was so surprised by Shadow's declaration he hadn't the words

leaving shadow to see these expressions unchanged

and analysed what he saw

(he is disgusted, appalled) Shadow's mind angrily spoke within his head, the demons convincing him that the ninja was too repulsed by his confession that he couldn't begin to express his horror

"shadow," Espio said as he finally said something

but it was too late as the dark hedgehog was too wrapped in his head by the humiliation and repulse within himself

"I understand" Shadow gravelly began as he stood up from his seat

"wait shadow" Espio called in a panic, trying to reach out to him but the hedgehog was already walking off at a hurried pace
