If someone would've asked me one year ago where I would be in this gigantic world, I surely wouldn't say Monaco. Mostly because I would never have the money to afford to living there, a simple weekend in Monte Carlo usually costed me a fortune every time I had gone there for work.
But somehow, I ended up in the place that I enjoyed visiting, and this time I had no ticket back home. When my boss had walked over to me three months ago, telling me that they needed to send one of us at the office to Monte Carlo for a year as one of the girls would quit, I was for some reason the first person she thought of.
In my opinion, we had way better candidates for the offer, but I couldn't really deny the offer once it was on my table. Three months ago I had grown tired of my grey office in a grey London, even though my job was filled of bright colours. Ever since being a small girl, I wanted to explore the world, living abroad and test the life in a place new. And now I had the opportunity, especially since the job fixed an apartment for me and even paid for it. It was too good to be true, because now I was walking in the early morning of Monte Carlo, the city quiet before the life woke up again.
It had been three days, and I already loved my new life. Thankful for spending quite some time here already, I knew my way around the city that literally filled out the whole country, and taking an early morning power-walk wasn't really unusual for me when being here. Even though going here involved a lot of partying, especially if I spent a whole weekend here and brought my friends with me, I always found myself wake up early in the mornings and no matter how tired I could be, I always made my way towards the ocean.
The temperature wasn't really the best one, yet, and I still had to wear a couple of layers to keep the heat, but to not see grey clouds and rain every day was enough for me, even though the temperature rarely reached 10°C in the early April morning.
I wasn't surprised to pass a couple of people being out doing their daily workout routine on my way around the streets, but jogging wasn't really my cup of tea, so I wasn't really jealous of the people that I passed by.
With music in my ears, I grasped the early hour of my last days before starting my new, or not really new, job in two days. I had helped out starting up the new office of the company we had bought up here in Monte Carlo, a marketing company that worked with different fashion brands, from smaller ones to the bigger. It had already been a year since we went here for the first time to help out with the start-up, and I had gone here for a couple of times ever since to help out for big events, as well helping out with more administrative things whenever they needed the help from the UK office.
And we had grown pretty big ever since we first took our steps here. Not only did we have customers here in Monaco, but now customers from France came to us for help with different campaigns and events. And I loved every single second of it.
I knew however that I needed to practice on my French, not having to speak the language ever since I left school as a kid. The office here spoke English thankfully, but some of our customers didn't, and it was a thing I had to adapt to.
Reaching my favourite place to sit down at in the mornings to simply catch my breathe in this hectic world, I sat down, for the third time ever since moving here. The sun was already reaching the sky and the small heat finally warmed when it reached you.
Changing my playlist to a less hectic one, I sat down and placed my hands behind my back as I enjoyed the view in front of me, except when a couple of people ran by, but thankfully I couldn't hear their panting sound leaving their lips as they tried to reach their goals. It was however quite funny to watch the people that passed you, some of them were people that you had seen earlier, as they clearly knew that these roads were the best ones to enjoy in the mornings, just like I did.
And obviously, some people enjoyed staying at the same spot as me, some to stretch, others to catch their breathe before walking back home.
Just as I were trying to get into my own mood, and close my eyes, I noticed a guy jogging closer. The very same guy had stopped here yesterday as well to do some funny stretching, not that I stared at him or anything. But I couldn't help but glance when he suddenly stood in the weirdest position I had ever seen someone stretch in, making it impossible for me not to make a quick look.
Knowing that I wouldn't be able to relax while he probably would do his morning stretches today as well, I gave him a friendly smile as we shared the spot next to the ocean.
I looked back to the view in front of me, trying to ignore the company I had just gotten, but it was impossible as he did some movements next to me, and just as I looked over, his lips were moving, oh he was talking to me.
Quickly removing one of my earphones, I gave him a questioning look before his lips grew into a smile. "Is it okay that I do my stretches here?"
Shaking my head, I smiled back at the stranger. "No, of course, it's a public area so I can't forbid you."
A small laugh left his lips before he nodded, clearly understanding what I meant.
"You sat here as well yesterday, right?" he said just as I was about to put my earphone back in to cancel out the sound around me. It wasn't until now that I heard that he had an accent, clearly not being from here as there was no hints of French in his vocabulary. But I couldn't place where he was from, obviously not from UK though.
"Oh... yeah, I moved here a couple of days ago." I answered him, before realising how stupid it sounded. "Well, not HERE to this very spot. But to Monte Carlo."
The laughter that left his lips as he was in one of those weird positions I had seen him in yesterday, I couldn't help but smile at him. "You got me worried there for a while."
"So, what brought you here? If I may ask?"
"Work. I've been helping out with our office here for a couple of times and now I got the opportunity to try out living the life as a Monegasque for a year." I smiled at him as he nodded, clearly listening to my words.
"Well, welcome to Monte Carlo then!" He smiled back, while I was still figuring out where the hell he was origin from.
Leaving one of my earphones in my hand, we both did our separate things, well I didn't really do much more than sitting there in the grass while trying, once again, to not look at his stretch exercises, while he seemed really focused on what he was doing. After a good twenty minutes, I thought that he would leave, just like he did yesterday, but to my surprise, he walked over and plopped down next to me, mimicking my position.
I quickly looked over at him, as we were now sitting not more than a half of a meter away from each other, him already looking at me with a big smile as he held out his hand for me to shake. "I now present myself as your new friend in this town, because I know how hard it is to move to a new country. I'm Daniel."

a/n: Hi hello, welcome to this Daniel Ricciardo fanfiction. I have no idea where this will head, but I ended up writing this instead of my essay for uni (oops...) , but I hope you'll join the ride with me.
So, a few words from me, English isn't my first language, so if there's some grammar mistakes, please tell me! And this chapter ended up quite short, but hopefully I'll make them longer in the future ;)
Also, who's excited for the new season to start?? And are you team "LOVE THE NEW CAR AND SUITS" like me, or are you still trying to adjust to the change after the McLaren car reveal? ;)
