After we finally took the car back to the city, neither of us wanted the evening to end, even though it was getting closer to midnight and we both had things to do tomorrow. But just as we started to come closer to Monte Carlo again, Daniel asked me if I wanted to go up to his apartment and share on a bottle of wine before we would say goodbye for the night.
And my gut couldn't say no to that, so that's where we ended up, and when the clock got closer to 2am, and both of us almost half asleep even though we still talked, Daniel told me that he would walk me home since I had to get some sleep before work tomorrow.
A good thing with the company I worked on, was that we had this policy that we could arrive at the office whenever we wanted, as long as we worked the hours we were supposed to get each day. And since I had no meetings tomorrow, it meant that I could come in a bit later than usual with no shame.
Just as we arrived at my building, I understood even better how close we lived to each other.
"Let's do this again, soon?" Daniel said as he stood in front of me, ready to say good night before we would separate our ways.
A look into his brown, warm eyes, made me smile for the millionth time this evening, and with I big nod, I agreed on it. "Please, I had a great time tonight. Plus now I have two payments in my baggage for the next time we go out."
A shared laughter between us was heard as Daniel shook his head. "Liz, I don't have anything against paying. Especially when it's me taking to you places. But I guess I can make an agreement if it means so much to you."
I rolled my eyes at the man in front of me before I felt a yawn creep it's way to my mouth and I knew it was way later than my usual bed time. "Great! Well, I really need to sleep now..."
Before I could even react, Daniel's arms were already around me, and I took a deep breathe to inhale his scent for one last time this evening, as my arms went around him as well. In all honesty, I didn't feel like letting go off him, and it seemed like he felt the same because his strong grip got harder around me when he felt my sigh.
But just like that, it was over quicker than I wanted it to, and his arms moved away from my body. "So, sleep tight Liz. I'll text you tomorrow probably and we can plan out something. Plus I want to see your apartment soon, now that you've told me about how great you've done it this weekend."
I laughed as I promised him that I would even make him a dinner when he would come to my place soon, already looking forward to it.
One last goodbye, and I watched Daniel walk off into the night before I eventually went inside the building, having a weird feeling in my stomach while standing in the elevator.
I couldn't put my finger on it, but I knew that it was the beginning of my realisation that Daniel was starting to mean much more to me than a new friend I had known about for only a week.
---
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday flew by, and my presentation of the new project was met with open arms from my colleagues as well as my boss on Friday morning. It was a stressful week once again, and I literally only managed to go back home for the day before it was time to return to the office.
So the fact that me and Charlotte managed to go out for dinner during the week, was something I had no idea how I made possible. But we did, and we both had a great time, agreeing on doing it as a weekly habit. Charlotte even promised me that she would bring me out with her friends, as she felt sorry that I had to leave all my friends back in London, no matter how many times I assured her that it wasn't really my biggest problem.
