A/N: I will put this before continuing the next chapter, because first of all... hello, long time no see. I'm so so so sorry for not publishing any new chapters to the story for a while but in all honesty... I lost all inspiration after the last chapter, not knowing where this story would be heading and I was also tired of everything privately.
I tried a couple of times during the summer to write new chapters, but with all the drama around Daniel and McLaren, as well as the news that came out about him not continuing with them, I kind of fell apart and that killed my inspiration completely. BUT I'll forever grateful that I managed to see our beloved honey badger drive irl two times this year (Barcelona and then Monza) even though I wished this season would've looked different for him. And now it's the last race of the weekend :(( *keeping my fingers crossed that he'll be back on the grid in 2024*
Anyways, thank you all for still reading my story about Liz and Daniel, and I saw the other day that the story has reached 39k reads, giving me remorse for having the story on hiatus as I kinda want to give this story a great end some day. I hope you all enjoy the new chapter and I cannot promise how often I'll update the story, but I believe for my own health that it's better that I write whenever my inspiration is there <3
-------
Qualifying, sprint race AND the actual race put into one weekend? There were hectic days to say the least, and even though Daniel held onto me as if he was afraid that I would disappear in swarm of people filling the paddock or even inside the McLaren hospitality, it felt like I barely saw him during the weekend.
Luckily, I got to spend some time with my brother before I would have to go back to Monaco, and we both promised each other after the sprint when we both had been hanging onto each other, me hiding my face in his chest as I barely dared watching how it all went, that we would try and see each other more often. Somehow it felt like this weekend brought us back together, to the siblings we both knew we were without any drama surrounding us. Well, at least the things my brother didn't know about. Marcus enjoyed every second of being at the track though, I laughed as I watched him walk around like he was the king of the paddock. The tables turned quickly however when Lewis suddenly passed us and he looked like a small boy again while his eyes seemed to pop out any second as he watched one of the drivers he grew up idolising pass him by.
It was a lot more intense going to the paddock the closer to the actual race we got. Marcus asked me, what it felt like every few minutes, if I was okay and how the hell I managed to stay so calm in the swarms of both photographers and fans whenever they saw us close to Daniel. I wanted to believe that I was okay with it all, and a part of me felt like I was starting to get used to it. I was extra careful to not being too close to Daniel whenever we were out in "public", and I always dragged my feet over to Marcus and Michael when Daniel suddenly was surrounded by people wanting to take a picture with him or having things to get signed.
However, Daniel convinced us to go with him, Blake and Michael to the track on the actual race day, and that was when I realised that I was no way near being comfortable in the situation. Daniel made sure to hold my hand, as we made our way through the security control even though there were fans everywhere. With my heartbeat rising by the stressful situation, I lightly tugged my hand away from him as I felt my breath go more and more uneasy. Daniel did notice it of course, and once we had managed to pass the security with our passes, he pulled me in closer as his hand landed on the small of my back before planting a kiss on the top of my head. "Are you okay?"
Glancing up at the man I knew would protect me from anything, I also knew that my stress over it all wasn't really a thing he needed to be pondering over, and I tried my best to put on a honest smile as I nodded. I couldn't form any words though, and I was even afraid to open my mouth in case my voice wouldn't hold. And it surely didn't because the second I looked in front of us, we were swarmed by what felt like hundreds of fans, when the truth was that it was barely twenty of them.
