I don't think I've ever been dragged out of a club that quickly before, but after I confessed to Daniel that I can only see myself with him, he didn't say a word. He just stopped dancing, his smile being wider than ever before he had taken my hand, dragged me over to Paul and Charlotte before he said something to Paul.
And after that, it all felt like a blur before Daniel and I eventually was out in the fresh air of the night. For a moment, I got worried that I said something wrong, that maybe it wasn't right of me to say this so early, and doing it when we both had been drinking.
Because of course, my mind couldn't stop wondering why he didn't say something back to me, how he just smiled before dragging me out as if it was a fire in the building. The way he held onto my hand strongly while he dragged me out on the streets, taking me somewhere I had no idea where it was. All I could figure out when I walked one step behind him, trying to keep up in my high heels as he seemed stressed about going to a place unknown, was that he took us closer to the beach as the sound of the waves got louder for every step.
When he stopped on the walk way, he looked down at my feet before he finally spoke out. "Take off your shoes because we're going out on the sand."
I didn't even dare to ask him why he dragged me to a beach in the middle of the night, no matter how confused my face looked like. So I did what he asked for, taking off my heels easily and the second my feet touched the ground, a release of pain came from them as they clearly didn't enjoy being squeezed into these certain ones for the night.
With my one hand holding my heels, Daniel held my other as we walked further down on the beach. No, it was more like him dragging me with him, making me laugh as I stumbled over the sand, obviously feeling the alcohol in my blood still. When we eventually got closer to the water before he stopped us, standing next to me while his eyes looked out in the distance.
What looked like an inner debate in his head, he shook his head before shrugging off the jacket he had over his shoulders, putting it down on the ground before he ushered me to sit down, him next to me while our legs slightly touched. But still, there hadn't been a word leaving his lips ever since he dragged me out of the club.
"Daniel?" I asked, knowing that I needed some answers, "Why are we here?"
"This is the place I've gone to every time I've been out for a run while being too frustrated to be at home, thinking about you. Thinking about the moment I would be able to confess my feelings about you, to find the courage to actually tell you how much you mean to me after this short time." Daniel said, his eyes not meeting mine as they now looked out over the horizon that couldn't really be seen from the darkness of the night.
"And you brought me here because this is the place-"
"This is the place I pictured myself telling you that I've fallen really hard for you. This is where I've been planning out on how to tell you all of this without the fear of pushing you away from me." Daniel sighed, now finally looking at me before he grabbed my hand, "It's been years since I felt like this about someone, my last relationship was with a girl I met in high school, who I brought with me to Europe but we eventually understood that we wanted different things in life. And I thought that I was okay with having short flings, nothing to commit to, nothing to be in the way of my career. But then you came into my life."
I was speechless. Daniel had always been open with me, but this was something new. And I couldn't put my finger on whether he felt the same as me, the courage of actually speaking up about this with some alcohol in the blood. No matter what, I didn't feel like I had been drinking from the moment he started talking. The way I quickly sobered up when hearing what he had to lift off his chest.
