Did I just make my first friend in Monte Carlo? It wasn't a thing I was used to for sure, because mostly I met people here while being out in the night clubs, and to be honest, most of them were tourists, just as myself. So it wasn't like I had anyone here that I knew that also lived here for that matter. However, I did enjoy the colleagues that I would soon spend a lot of hours together with, but I couldn't really say no to get to know people outside my bubble that contained people that I would meet at work for every single day.Daniel, the stranger that finally got a name, sat with me for a while before he had to leave for his duties for the day. We chatted for the few minutes he sat down next to me, and I finally got to my knowledge that he was from Australia, making me thankful for getting rid of the headache that grew for not being able to place his accent somewhere.
When I asked him where the hell he came from, it made it way too obvious that he was Australian once the words left his lips. Because now it was pretty clear to me that his accent where from the up-side-down country down under, no matter how hard he tried to try and cover it a bit.
He gave me a couple of giggle fits as we sat there, and I had no idea how he did it, because it surely felt like he had been my friend for as long as I could remember, and I admired the way he seemed so down to earth even though he was talking to a complete stranger. The way he invited me into the conversation as well, clearly interested to hear who I was, made me want to get to know my new friend even better.
It was quite obvious that he was a busy man though, because even though the clock wasn't much, his phone that laid on the grass never seemed to catch a break, and when he had ignored a call for the third time, he had to excuse himself to make his way back home. Not that I had anything to impede him for, but he seemed clearly annoyed at himself for not having time to stay for a bit longer. Clearly enjoying sitting down with some company as well.
"Well, it was great having a chat with you Elisa, hopefully I'll see you around here more."
Looking up at his tall figure when he was back on his feet again, I saluted towards him with a smile. "Same to you, Daniel! You kinda stole my private spot from me here so I guess I'll have to start guarding this place from now on."
Daniel grimaced down at me before we both laughed. Saying goodbye, he started jogging away towards the distance and I could go back to find some peace before the whole town would wake up again. I couldn't help but look at Daniel as he jogged away, and as if he felt it, he turned around, making my cheeks heat up as he caught me looking at him. "Hey Elisa! How about we grab a coffee tomorrow?"
I frowned at him before giggling, if the town wasn't awake already, most of them would probably be after him shouting from a distance for me to hear. "But we don't have each other's number?!"
"Meet me here tomorrow at 10 am, and we'll make it a breakfast!"
Shaking my head as I was left giggling for myself as his figure disappeared around the corner, I already knew that I was in for a real roller coaster for this year.

My Saturday wasn't really much more eventful than my chatter with Daniel that morning, I had still quite some things to unpack, and I was still waiting for a delivery with more of my things from London to arrive. Thankfully, my apartment was already furnished before I moved in, but it still wasn't feeling like my own, and I was in big need of getting my own touch on it.
So the rest of my Saturday was spent unpacking my clothes, going in a few of the stores here, realising that I would get robbed if I bought the things I really wanted, and the evening ended up with a glass of wine with the Chinese food I bought at the restaurant close to my home in my way too comfortable sofa that I got with the apartment.
