|❁ A Ball? ❁|
Natasha was sitting alone on her window sill, reading another book. This was a common routine for her and she never ceased to enjoy it.
Her room was lit by the bright sky outside, the sun shining on the tan pages of her book as she turned them to continue with the story.
She hadn't put much thought into what to wear, so she had opted into wearing a small loose fitting white dress that was perfect for the summer.
Natasha was enjoying the silence that filled the air, it was calming. The sounds of birds outside or the rustling of maids passing the room.
However that silence was soon broken when there was a knock at the door.
Sighing, she got up and opened her door.
"Hi mum. Is everything alright?" Natasha asked politely with a warm smile.
"Everything is splendid, I just wanted to talk with you." Melina answered. Natasha looked at her sceptically before letting her mother in.
"Is it something serious? Did Father do something again?"
"Your Father hasn't done anything. There is no need to worry."
"Then what do you need to talk about?" Natasha sat back on her window sill again and grabbed the book. She placed a bookmark into it and gently closed it, looking at her mother to speak.
"Now I don't want you to get annoyed with me but there is a ball in two weeks time. It is in the Bloomington Kingdom. I was thinking, that you could go and - "
"And gather information on their weaknesses. Look I know Dad wants to defeat them but they just lost their king and queen two weeks ago. I couldn't do that.". Natasha but in. Melina looked down but shook her head before looking back up to her daughter.
"That's what your father wants. I wanted you to go and maybe make an allyship with them. This rivalry has gone on for too long and is hurting both kingdoms." Melina explained. Natasha stayed quiet in thought for a second before speaking.
"So you want me? The princess not many people like because I'm not talkative or outgoing, to go to a large event and make friends with our enemy?" Her mother nodded. "Why me? I'm sure Yelena would've been a better choice for something like this."
"Well you're not necessarily wrong. But I want people to see you as the kind and caring person you are. Not just this front of being rude and ignorant. Think about it please. I'll see you at dinner." Melina kissed her forehead before leaving the room.
Natasha shrugged and tried to go back to reading.
But something about her mother's words she just couldn't shake. Her mum wanted her to do this job not Yelena, who was obviously the right choice but Melina wanted her.
She thought about it some more and decided to just sleep on the offer.
She then went back to reading, the sunlight not as present as it was before. But alas it was still dimly there.
Natasha had a big decision to make and she didn't even know the impact.
