Quarrel From A Kid

Shadow's P.O.V

I sat down on the couch watching a football game on the television. Cooper was playing outside in the backyard. Sonic was watching a movie in our bedroom. So I was on my own. Not that I minded. I've needed downtime recently. I watched as all these players on the tv were playing poorly but managing to hold the game up.

Just as I was about to fall asleep, I thought I heard a knock. But I shrugged it off as something in my mind. But then I heard it again, except this time a bit more firm. I decided to get up and look around to see who it was. When I answered the door, I had to bite back any insults I had.

Cream's stupid-looking boyfriend was standing there, his ears somewhat down. "Ah! Shadow! It's nice to see you!" he said. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. "I can tell you're wanting something out of me. But I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not." I answered. He took in a deep breath. "I... I want to talk to you about Cream. It's really important. And I can't wait any longer." he told me. If it's about Cream... I nodded and let him come inside then sit at our kitchen table.

"So... Spill. If it's my daughter, I need to know." Kai nodded and looked at me seriously. "I don't want to feel as if I'm taking her away from you. But I love Cream. With everything in my heart I refuse to ever let her go in vain. And I mean there's nothing negative about Cream. She has happiness and her heart is beyond anything I've ever seen. I know how close you two are in general which is why I wanted to come to talk to you personally about it. I already made it clear to her that I'm not just going to dismiss you or disrespect you. You're a good father to her. And even though you don't like me, I just want you to know I want the very best for Cream too. So... I decided to finally ask..." he explained, taking something out of his pocket.

He pushed over a small box and left it to where I could touch it. I picked it up and I looked at it briefly before opening it. My eyes widened. It was a beautiful ring... I knew where this was going. "I wouldn't want to ask her without getting your approval. I love Cream. I understand if you think we're not ready. If that's the case, I can respect it. But... if it's just because you don't like me, then I'm sorry, I can't do that." he replied.

How fast she's actually grown... I sighed and looked down at the table for a minute. I've been around Cream since she was five years old. Then she was a huge part of my life another year after that. She's always been, my little girl... Now he wants to be a part of her life too. I know I don't want him to have her. She deserves to be happy. She helped you get your own love. It's time for her to have hers. I looked up with him, I knew he saw my eyes glistening.

"Listen, I love my family more than anything. So I'm not going to let them go so easily ever. However, I know you're a good guy. If I ever hear from my daughter again... I will bury you alive." I growled in his face. "I understand. I won't hurt her. I love your daughter." he promised me.

I nodded my head and pushed the box to him. "You have my blessing. Just take care of my girl." I smiled. I stood up to shake his hand and he shook it back gratefully. That's when Sonic walked into the room. "Oh, Kai! It's nice to see you! What are you doing here?" he asked curiously. I pulled Kai close to me, putting my arm around his shoulder. "Kai here is going to become our new in-law soon." I said, smiling at him. Sonic's jaw dropped as he raced to Kai. "OH MY GOD! Dude that's amazing! Welcome to the fam!" he smiled hugging him.

We smiled and cheered for him knowing that Cream would be in good hands. That's when I heard the door open up. Cooper looked surprised to see Kai there but I mean he hasn't been back in a while. "Dads, what's Kai doing here?" he asked us. "Oh! Cooper! You'll be so happy to hear! Kai is going to propose to your sister!" Sonic told him. "Huh? What does that mean?" he asked confused.

"It means that Cream's gonna be with Kai forever. This means Cream's gonna move out from here. And they're going to get married." I explained to him. He looked at us and at the floor confused. But I don't think it's because he didn't understand.

"No... NO! Cream can't leave! You said she wouldn't leave!" he shouted angrily. "Cooper, it's not like she's leaving us! She'll always be here." Sonic reassured him. "Dad! Please! Don't! Cream has to stay! She's the only friend I have! Please! I love my cousins but she's my best friend! PLEASE!" he cried. I opened my mouth but nothing came out. Sonic was the same way, his ears folded down. Even Kai was taken back from all of this. "Cooper..." Sonic sighed, getting to his level. "It's not our decision to make. It's Kai's and Cream's." he said.

Cooper pushed past him and walked straight up to Kai. "You can't take her away! She's my friend!" he shouted at him. "Cooper stop! Cream's old enough to move on with her life. You can't expect her to stay forever." I sighed, some of it directed from myself. "B-Besides... I love your sister! You'll get to see her. I won't be taking her! We just... might be living elsewhere! I haven't asked her to marry me, Cooper. I promise it'll be okay!" Kai tried to reassure him. "You can't marry my sister! Find someone else to marry!" he shouted again.

"I... I can't! I love her." he said again trying to reason with him. I could tell Cooper was having a hard time dealing with this news. "I HATE YOU! I WISH CREAM DIDN'T LOVE YOU!" he yelled before racing off into his room, slamming the door so hard, even I was shocked. I didn't even know what to say.

Kai sighed and looked at us.
