Never Say A Word

Chapter 4

Ashton and Calum helped me up but when I saw Michael on the floor getting kicked by both boys I got out of their grasp.
"Jennifer he's fine!" Calum yelled. I went up behind Luke and jumped onto his back and pulled his hair. He soon fell and I got off I looked at the other boy. He grabbed his hair not wanting me to pull it.
"Go!" I yelled and he ran. I got down next to Michael. "Michael are you ok?!" He shook his head crying a little. Calum and Ashton came over and I looked up at them. "Let's get him home!" I said. They looked at each other then back down at Michael.

Later I was at Michael's house sitting on a couch chair watching him. He was badly hurt, I've never seen him cry before. He was laying on his side hugging his stomach curled up on the couch. I looked at the time, his mom won't be home for another 5 hours and I didn't want to leave him alone like this. I got up and sat down on the floor next to him. He opened his eyes and looked at me. I weekly smiled as he just looked at me as more tears ran down his cheeks.
"What time is it?" He asked.
"1:30." I told him and he sighed. "I'm sorry that this happened."
"It's not your," he winced, "fault."
"Michael I love you but next time don't try to save me." I said gently moving his bangs to the side over and over again.
"But that means that I can't protect one of the ones I love." He said looking me in the eyes. I froze.
"What do you mean?" I asked, then he kissed me on the cheek.
"That's what I mean."
"Still very confused."
"Blondie." He said reaching out and messing up my hair. I fixed it and he smiled.
"Does that mean that you have like a crush on me?"
"No I just really wanted to kiss you." He smiles.
"Stupid." I smiled. There was a knock on the door and I got up to answer it.
"How's Michael doing?" Calum asked and him and Ashton walked in.
"Good I guess." I said. "But you'll have to ask him."
"Hurts like fucking hell but besides that good." Michael said.
"What did they do to you?" Ashton asked.
"They kicked me in the stomach millions of times and back and stuff." Is all he told them.
"I'm going to go talk to that asshole Luke." Calum said but I grabbed his arm before he could walk out the door and get killed by him. He looked at me and I shook my head. He sighed and sat down on the couch chair. I giggled.
"What time does his mom come home?" Ashton asked.
"6:30." I told him.
"I'll stay here with you." Ashton smiled.

Later when his mom finally came home Ashton and I were watching Michael eat some dinner.
"Oh, hey Jennifer and Ashton." Michael's mom said a little surprised.
"Hello." I smiled. "We were just about to leave." I said getting up with Ashton.
"Oh ok." She smiled leaving the door open for us. We walked out and she closed the door.
"You going to Calum's?"
"No I'm going home."
"Oh, well I'll be at Calum's if you want to come later." He said and walked the opposite way I did.
When I got home everyone was done with dinner and the first person I saw was Luke.
"There you are Jennifer!" My mom smiled.
"Sorry Michael's mom came home a little late." I said.
"Well the Hemmings are here and Luke wants to talk to you." She had a glass of wine in her hand and so did all the other adults. And the way my mom was acting I could tell she was getting drunk. Luke walked up and smiled.
"Let's go outside Jennifer." He said.
"You two should go to Calum's, I don't think he's ever been to Calum's house." My mom said.
"Oh he's um not home."
"His car is in the driveway and the lights are on." Luke said.
"Jennifer just take him up to Calum's." My mom sighed and I had no choice. We walked out and headed to Calum's. I texted Calum quickly.
Me: I'm super sorry but my mom is making me take Luke to your house.

He didn't answer. We got there and before I knocked I turned to face Luke.
"What?" He snapped.
"No bullying!" I pointed a finger at him.
"I don't bully you!"
"Whatever Luke." I said ringing the doorbell. Calum grinned seeing me then frowned seeing Luke.
"What's he doing here?"
"I texted you and said that my mom made me take him here."
"My phone is dead."
"Oh. Well now you know."
"Jennifer can come in but you can't." Calum glared.
"It's cold out though!"
"Calum please just let him. He won't bother us."
"No."
"Luke come on inside but if you say or do one bad thing then you're out. Got it?" I asked looking him in his blue eyes. He nodded and we walked in. Calum sighed closing the door. "Where are your parents?"
"I don't know, gone." He shrugged. "Ash and I were playing video games downstairs." He said and we went to the basement.
"Hey Ashy." I said.
"Hey Jenny." He said not taking his eyes off the screen. When he saw Luke he paused the game. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"My mom made me bring him here, he won't bother us." I told him and he rolled his eyes playing the game again. Luke sat down on the couch far away from us. He put his hood up and kept his hands in his pockets. I turned to Calum.
"Could we include him somehow?" I whispered.
"No."
"Calum."
"What? Every time he's around something bad happens and you end up hurt. I'm not going to be nice to him and let him play."
"Then I'm not playing." I said putting down my controller.
"What?"
"If Luke doesn't play, I don't play." I stood up.
"Jennifer what are you doing?" Ashton asked me.
"I'm going to do something with Luke like a nice person." I walked over to Luke and sat down next to him. He looked at me confused. "What should we do Luke?"
"What are you doing?"
