Never Say A Word

Chapter 12

In the morning Calum took me to take my cast off my leg.
"How does it feel to have that cast off?" Calum asked starting the car.
"Awesome!" I said and he laughed a little. When we got to his house we went inside but Calum then walked right back outside. "What are you doing?" I asked following him. He was heading to Luke's house.
"I need to get my $50 back." He said a little angry. He knocked on the door and his mom answered.
"Yes?" She asked rudely.
"Is Luke home? I need to talk to him."
"He's not here." She said like we should of known.
"Oh. Do you know where he is?"
"No. He's been gone ever since last night!" She snapped before closing the door in our faces. I looked over at Calum.
"Where could he be?" I asked and he shrugged. "Should we look for him?"
"No. If he ran off and he didn't want anyone to know at school, he would still go."

Calum was right, Luke was at school on Monday. Right when Calum saw him by my locker he pushed him up hard against the lockers grabbing his shirt.
"You came into my house saying that your parents kicked you out! You said you needed a place to stay! You promised you were not going to cause trouble! But look where we are now!" He yelled shocking the 3 of us.
"What's going on with Calum?" Michael whispered.
"You'll find out."
"What do you mean?" Luke asked trying to sound innocent.
"You lied about everything to steel my money! You took $50!"
"What no I didn't! And my parents kicking me out wasn't a lie!"
"Whatever! Give me my $50 back!"
"I don't have your $50!"
"Keep up the lying and see where that gets you!" Calum yelled pushing him into the lockers more.
"Ok Calum calm down!" Michael said trying to get between them.
"Shut up Michael!" He yelled turning his head to look at him. He turned back to Luke and punched him.
"Calum stop!" I yelled.
"Shut the fuck up Jennifer! You can't tell me what to do! Go away!" He yelled at me. Then Michael looked at me and went over to Calum pushing him and he fell loosing the grip on Luke. Michael sat on his stomach so he couldn't get up.
"Stop it!" Michael yelled slapping him. Calum looked at him and Michael got off helping him up.
"Go, Luke!" Ashton said. And Luke ran down the hall. Calum looked at me.
"Jennifer." He said and I shook my head. "Jen please."
"No." I clenched my books tighter as I backed up away from him.
"Jen I didn't mean to-."
"Go away." I choked dropping my books and running down the hall not noticing till it was too late, I was following Luke. I ran outside when I heard the bell ring. I ran to a tree and sat down my back against the trunk. I hugging my legs to my chest and put my head down crying. I stopped crying and listened, someone else was crying as they talked to someone. I looked up and saw Luke.
"I'm trying mom!" He sniffed.
"Try harder!" His mom yelled so loud I could hear it.
"How am I supposed to try harder to steal?"
"Uggggggh! You're fucking useless Luke!! What was the last thing you did right?!" She yelled and hung up. He put down his phone and started to cry.
"Luke?" I asked very gentle. He looked around then down at me.
"What do you want?" He asked. I climbed up to him.
"What happened?"
"You saw what happened! You were there when Calum yelled at me."
"I'm not talking about Calum." I said then I put my hand on his phone shaking a little as I did.
"What are you talking about nothing happened!"
"Luke I've heard your mom call you useless before. What is she trying to make you do?"
"Jennifer get out of the tree before I push you out again." He said as calmly as he could. I got down and walked away looking back when he started to cry again.

I walked into a forest. I didn't look back I didn't see how far I went. I went until I found a good climbing tree. When I finally found one I climbed as high as I could and sat there thinking about every bad thing that happened in my life.

1st grade. 6 years old. I was new at school. Going from privet to public. The first day of school I didn't talk all day not even to teachers. When lunch time came I got my lunch and sat down at an empty table.
"Hey look it's the new girl!" A boy said from behind me. I turned around to see one of the boys in my class. I smiled trying to make friends with him. "Ooh what did you get for lunch?" He asked looking past me at my tray. "Yum you got the spaghetti." He said then he quickly grabbed my tray and dumped all my food on my head. Then I felt him pour chocolate milk on my head. Everyone laughed at me. When a teacher came in he put my tray down and sat next to me acting like he was trying to comfort me.
"What happened to her?" The teacher asked.
"She decided to play with her food." Luke said and when I looked up at the teacher she glared at me.
"Go to the office to clean up. And I don't know what it was like at your old school but here we don't play with our food here." She snapped. I got up and ran to the office as everyone laughed at me. First day and I already have a bully.

Winter in 1st grade. I was late to school. I ran to the door when it was still open and Luke was holding it open for me. I smiled at how nice we has being until when I got to the door I took my coat off so it would make it faster when j got to my locker.
"Oh here I'll carry your things." He smiled taking my bag and coat.
"Thank you." I said then when I was about to step inside he pushed me making me slip on the ice and I fell. He stuck his tongue out at me and closed the door making it lock. I was stuck outside with no coat, hat, or mittens and it was 35 degrees out.
Later at recess they noticed I was outside and I got in huge trouble because they thought that I was trying to skip half of school.

My phone in my back pocket buzzed and I got in our forgetting I had it and saw that Calum texted me. Was it already 3:00? Schools over. I read the text.

Calum: Jennifer where are you?

I ignored it and turned off my phone. Then my phone rang and Calum was calling me, I hit end and put my phone down. If they wanted to find me they are gonna have to come and look for me.
