Chance was sitting at her desk looking at recruitment numbers, and she could already feel the headache coming. Since she took over, numbers have gone up, but that's only because she convinced the King that humans should also be allowed to serve. They live there, so why can't they be in the Army as well as vampires?

It didn't take much to get him to agree, thankfully he's always trusted her. But still, it's not enough. They may have a connection to Ellesfire since her parents are married, but that doesn't mean other countries don't want what they have. Thankfully a bus full of new human recruits will be here in the morning. Now, she has to worry about getting the vampire numbers up.

"Good evening Princess."

A scowl covered her face; only her Uncle dared to call her Princess. Chance looked at him and rolled her eyes, "Damnit, Uncle Blake, do you want me to stab you?"

He rolled his eyes back at her, "Why couldn't you be more like your father? Why did you have to get your mother's love for stabbing people?"

"My father is a vampire, a Duke, and a personal guard to the vampire King. Plus, he's like 2,000 years old. You act like he hasn't done his fair share of stabbing people..."

Blake laughed, "You aren't wrong there, but still."

"I could always start yelling at you, very loudly and very fast, if you miss my dad that much?"

He shook his head quickly, "Please, no, I'm still reeling from his rant yesterday."

"You should know by now to stay out of his kitchen. But why are you here? I'm busy."

He looked so offended that he gasped dramatically and slapped his hand to his chest, "Did you forget about the new vampires that wanted to pledge their allegiance to our King? He agreed only if they would serve for at least three years since they are fully trained warriors."

Did she forget? Hell, yes, she was still reeling from her mother's birthday party from last week but was she going to admit that to her Uncle, fuck no? "Ah, sorry, I didn't realize the time. Lead the way."

When they got outside, he was still grating on her nerves, teasing and driving her up the wall. They turned the corner, and several vampires stood there, but Chance focused more on her Uncle. She stopped walking while he was still giving her shit, and she grabbed the knife. He was talking so loudly that she knew he wouldn't hear it.

She palmed her knife and tossed it, he's a vampire it wouldn't kill him. But it would hurt like a bitch! Before it could plunge into his shoulder, a tall vampire with dark hair grabbed it out of mid-air. Blake whipped around, his mouth wide open."You were going to stab me?"

Chance snorted, "I warned you like 50 times, Uncle."

The vampires looked back and forth between the two of them. They probably thought they were crazy. But whatever, they might as well get used to it now. It's not like they are going to change. The one who caught her knife flipped it over in his hand and handed it back to her. He bowed a bit. "I'm The 8. It's nice to meet you, Princess Kim."

She rolled her eyes and pointed to the stars on her collar, "If I'm in uniform, it's General Tennon-Kim or TK. If I'm in civies, it's Chance."

"Minghao." He was tall, slim, and so delicate-looking that she thought her eyes would pop out of her head. She didn't even say anything and she heard her Uncle snicker.

He introduced the rest and told her that her shadow awaited them at the obstacle course. Aww, Stephan, her little Hannie. He's the best little brother, and he's been stuck to her hip since he was a baby. Chance wasn't sure why he chose her as his favorite, but he did, and he's followed her ever since. She wasn't at all surprised when he joined the Army after her.

The General nodded her head and told the guys to follow her. Along the way, she explained that she wanted them to do the obstacle course and some combat situations and then go to the shooting range. She wanted to see how well they did and if they could handle what Hannie and her threw at them. If so, then they could stay.

When they got to the course, Hannie was there with his clipboard. He instructed them on what they wanted, and they took off. She couldn't keep her eyes off of Minghao; there was just something about him that fascinated her. She turned to tell her brother when she noticed that he was staring at the one they called Hoshi, like hardcore.

Hannie has dedicated his life to the Army; he hasn't given himself any time to date, which saddened her. He's a brilliant strategist, and there hasn't been a mission they've failed since he took over that department. The way his mind works amazed everyone; he could see any problem that they might face during a mission and fix it before their boots touched the ground.

Chance hoped the Hoshi guy noticed him; he deserved happiness. By the time they ran through all of the crap they put them through, she was in love. Minghao was a beast; he took her breath away because he bested everyone so well.

They were out of breath and standing in front of the two of them. Hannie was telling them his thoughts, and Seungkwan, she thought his name was, was bouncing up and down on his feet. Chance rolled her eyes; this always happened. "Just spit it out, dude. There's nothing you can ask that we haven't answered a million times already."

"Are you purple-blooded vampires? Can you walk in the sun? Do you eat human food or just blood?"

"Yes we are, yes we can and we can survive on both believe it or not."

His mouth formed an O, "That's so cool!"

She just smiled softly. They're a new species of vampires since their mother is a purple blood and their fathers are vampires. Once they start having children, if they are purple-blooded, the sun won't be a weakness for vampires in a few centuries anymore. Chance told them she was okay with them joining, and they all thanked her. Minghao walked up to her and smiled, "It was nice meeting you, TK. I hope that we get to see each other often."

If only this dude knew that she was already planning their wedding. Chance smirked, "we will, I am your boss after all." Then she winked and grabbed her brother before taking off so Minghao wouldn't hear her heartbeat go wild. Her mother is going to freak out when she finds out.
