Emma walked out of the gym, her hair all over the place. They just won her game and Emma was going to find Eric. When she found him, she ran up and gave him a hug. Eric spun her around, but quickly set her down.
"You're getting sweat all over me." Eric said disgustingly. Emma gave him a sarcastic smile. "Okay, let's go I got to go home."
"Cool, same." Emma responded. "Oh, wait my parents aren't home."
"Yeah, you can come over." Eric interrupted her.
------------------------------
"Hi, I'm Morgan and this is my brother Eric. He is very shy." Morgan repeated.
"Ha, ha, ha, good girl." Eric said giving her a treat. Emma rolled her eyes. Amy, Mrs. Matthews, walked into the room.
"Eric what are you teaching her?" Amy asked.
"Nothing." Eric quickly responded.
"I'm gonna help Eric pick up girls." Morgan told her mom. Amy looked at Emma to see if that was true, and she nodded her head.
"No, you don't. She doesn't. You don't." Eric told his mom and sister looking at Morgan, then his mom, and back at Morgan.
"My brother thinks you're so cute. Aww..." Morgan spoke her line. Amy and Emma laughed at the girl.
"So, this is why you've been taking her to the mall. I think it's great." Amy said. Emma and Eric's eyes went wide with surprise.
"You do?" The pair of friends said at the same time. Amy nodded her head.
"I think it's a perfect way for you and your sister to spend quality time together."
"I wish I had a sister." Emma said out loud. Morgan came over to her and put her small hand on her shoulder.
"Don't worry Emma, you're my sister." Morgan told her. Emma looked at her and gave her a smile and a hug. Suddenly, they heard a car pull up in the driveway.
"It's Grandma!" Eric exclaimed getting off the couch, Morgan following him.
"Hey, it's Grandma!" Morgan repeated.
"Look, it's not my grandma." Emma said getting off the couch as well. Mrs. Matthews walked in the front door.
"Okay, open up a lane, I'm coming through." She said setting down her bags. "I've been sitting on my keister for ten hours in that Winnebago. I need some stretching room." Mrs. Matthews said hello to all her grandkids and her son and his wife. Cory even came all the way from the park to see her. Emma was just watching the family.
"I think I'll slip out." Emma said to Eric. She started to walk away when Eric grabbed her and pulled her back by him.
"Now, who's this?" Mrs. Matthews asked. "I don't think I've seen this one yet."
"Grandma this is Emma." Eric said. "You've met her before." Emma just smiled awkwardly.
"Oh, now I remember you. How's volleyball going?"
"It's going good." Emma replied giving her a genuine smile. Eric let out a small laugh.
"Better than good Grandma, Emma here is one of their star players." Emma scrunched up her face and shook her head.
"Anyways I was thinking we'd take in the auto show. I hear the got some pretty hot babes sitting on the hoods of those hot rods." Mrs. Matthew told Eric.
"There's something I might enjoy." Eric told his grandma. Mrs. Matthew also gave Cory a gift too. Emma wasn't really expecting anything until Mrs. Matthews put her hand on her shoulder.
"And I know you want to play professionally, so I got you a spot at a volleyball camp next summer." Mrs. Matthews said giving Emma a piece of paper. Emma's eyes widened as she read the paper. CAL Sports Academy. It was one of Pennsylvania's best volleyball camps.
"Are you serious?" Emma asked still processing. Mrs. Matthews nodded her head. Emma gave her a hug. "Thank you." She whispered in her ear.
------------------------------
Emma walked in the back door as Eric walked into the kitchen. Eric showed Emma his arm and she rolled her eyes. Soon they heard a knock on the door and saw Mr. Feeny.
"Mr. Matthews, just the man I wanted to see." The teacher said. Emma took this as her cue to leave so she did. When she headed on the sidewalk to her house, she bumped into someone.
"Sorry." Emma said helping the girl she knocked over.
"No, you're fine, it was my fault." The girl said dusting off her pants. "I'm Jessica." The girl said holding out her hand.
"Emma." She responded shaking her hand.
"Well, I better go sorry about that again." Jessica headed off as Emma went to her house and into the backyard.
------------------------------
Emma worked out all day and decided to stay at her house. She headed out into the backyard and saw Eric and Jessica talking, but she headed towards the treehouse where Cory was.
"Hey Cor." Emma said.
"Hey Emma." Cory responded.
"You, okay?" Emma asked. Cory shook his head. Emma nodded.
"Grandma was supposed to- wha-" Cory stopped. Emma looked confused, so she followed his eyesight. She saw Eric and Jessica making out. Emma felt her heart drop. She looked back at Cory with a disappointed look on her face but tried to disguise it as an annoyed face.
"Wait." Cory said once more. Emma shook her head. "Do you like, like Eric?"
"What, no! Eric's my- yeah, yeah I do." Emma admitted. "But don't tell anyone. I'm gonna go." Emma hopped off the latter and left the backyard.
------------------------------
Emma stayed up all night tossing and turning thinking about tonight. Maybe she should try and forget about her crush on Eric, and maybe that was all it was just a crush.
Eric was up all night too, thinking about that kiss. However, he was also thinking about... Emma? No that's crazy. She's his best friend. What would happen if he asked her out? He just doesn't want to ruin their friendship.
