this story is legit a year old I need to wrap this ish up D:
DALLY'S P.O.V
I'm at the bar, wiping down the tabletops and trying to turn off the noise going on in my brain. Johnny and Two sat on the stools in front of me, watching the game on the tv behind me. I couldn't get Soda's face out of my head. The way he looked at her. The way he was with her. It was eating me alive.
"Dal, you've barely said a word since I got here." Two says, taking a swig of his beer and wiping his mouth on his sleeve. "Is it Slyvia again? She doin' something?"
I look up at him and realize no one has apparently been keeping Two in the loop. I guess I just assumed they all talked like a bunch of catty teenage girls. Sure always seemed like it. "He actually broke up with her." Johnny says for me, grinning a little. "He's with Vera now."
Two lets out a low whistle and slaps his hand down on the bar. "Holy shit! What in the hell did I miss?" He exclaims as Johnny laughs. "Wait a second I thought she was with-"
"Shut up, Two," I say lowly. The last thing I needed was a rehash of this again. Two looks at me, then Johnny, then me again.
"....hold up. Again?"
I roll my eyes and turn my back, grabbing some of the glasses to wipe down now. It was a slow night. I barely even had busy work to keep myself distracted from it all.
"Man, what is it with you both and that girl? I mean, sure she's a hot little piece of ass but-"
"Two!" I yell, slamming a glass down and glaring at him. He puts his hands up in defense.
"I'm just sayin'! Starting to feel like maybe I missed out on the fun. Should I have dated her too? Shit. Johnny, you date her?"
"Two, I swear to God, I'll punch you right in the face, and when your wife asks I'll tell her it was because you were talking about another girl and she'll throw your ass out again!" I holler, and he picks up his beer and takes a deep, long sip, letting me know he got the message.
"Okay, okay, I get it! Geeze. But honestly, there are other chicks here in Tulsa. You don't have to fight over the same one." He says matter of factly and lets out a laugh as he looks at Johnny for encouragement.
"He loves her." Johnny says for me, looking down at his drink which is near empty. I'm glad I had Johnny to speak for me. I don't know what to say. I'm not good at talking like this. I grab Johnny's drink and refill it on instinct. The other guys gave me shit because I still charged them but Johnny always got to drink for free. You don't charge family.
"That true, Dal? You soft for this girl?" Two asks. At my lack of an answer, he apparently feels the need to continue. "It's nothing to be ashamed of. I never thought I'd settle down. It's funny how the right women can really make an honest man out of you."
"There's nothing honest about you, Two-Bit." I say, leaning against the counter now.
"So what is it then, Dal? Soda's gone. I thought you'd be happy." Johnny says, looking at me in that soulful way he tends to do. I shrug and he looks at Two again as if they have some sort of inside perspective I'm not grasping.
"I saw Soda with her when he was leavin'....it was...I don't know." I say, feeling embarrassed. "They were saying goodbye but it didn't feel like a goodbye to me."
"You know she was staying with him, Dally. You know they were involved." Johnny says, always the voice of reason.
"Yeah, but it was different seeing it, kid. I don't know. I can't shake it. I didn't think she was ever actually serious about him but you should've seen them together..." My brain trails off to the way she touched his cheek, the way she embraced him and cried as he left. "It was... disgusting," I say, not ready to admit it was damn near heartbreaking instead.
