The van pulls out of the driveway and speeds off towards the Hero Public Safety Commission.
Bakugou's words seem to calm us down a bit so I lightly squeeze Kaito's hand in hopes of making us both feel better. I give him a reassuring smile and he squeezes my hand back. We go back to staring straight ahead and wait in silence for the inevitable ambush to come.
5 minutes pass and still nothing.
I get super anxious and my leg starts bouncing up and down.
Forget the villains, this suspense is gonna be the death of me.
Bakugou's body is facing me, but he's purely concentrated on the back doors. Ready to jump at the slightest hint of them opening up.
And yet, he somehow sees my leg from the corner of his eye, "What did I say? Nothing's gonna happen to you guys. I promise. Relax."
Kaito grabs my attention by gently shaking my hand, "Ya, don't worry (y/n)-san, I won't let those villains hurt you!"
God, I'm such a coward.
The 8-year-old boy is braver than the 24-year-old woman.
I'm pathetic.
I place both of my hands in his and apologize, "I'm so sorry Kaito-kun, I should be the one consoling you, not the other way around."
He shakes his head, "It's ok (Y/n)-san, we're all scared of something. Like me, I'm scared of the dark, but I bet you're not."
Jeez, for a little kid, he's pretty wise.
"Thank you Kaito-kun, I feel much better now." He smiles brightly at me and excitedly replies, "I'm glad I could help!"
I turn back to Bakugou and he raises his right eyebrow, practically asking me if I'm ok. I nod back, trying to be as subtle as I can so as not to tip off Kaito.
We both go back to staring at the doors and that's when it happens.
A huge explosion is heard in front of our van, and we all whip our heads to try to catch a glimpse of what happened. The little window next to Kaito does just that, and we all watch as the van in front of us gets flipped on its side.
Kirishima jumps out and runs out of view, no doubt to face the villain. Then a second explosion goes off and this time our van is the one that's struck.
I involuntarily shriek and instantly grab Kaito and hug him to my chest, hoping to take most of the damage for him. We're thrown off our bench and begin to flip with each roll of the van.
My head collides with the bench Bakugou was sitting on and I wince at the pain. I feel hands wrap around my waist as my back presses against a chest.
I beg for the van to stop flipping and it surprisingly does.
The van screeches to a halt once it's completely upside down and I quickly assess the situation.
Kaito's face is buried into my shoulder as he desperately clings to me. I slightly turn my head to the right and see Bakugou underneath me. His arms are wrapped around both me and Kaito as he yells in my ear, "Are you guys ok?!"
I flinch away, but do my best to nod back, "I think so. Kaito, sweetie, are you hurt?"
He shakes his head and softly says no. I sigh in relief and Bakugou releases us from his grip and sits me up.
He walks to the van's doors and takes one last look at us, "Stay here, I'll come and get you once it's safe."
I nod back, and he immediately climbs out and slams the doors shut.
