I go over the list Izuku graciously made me and plop myself down at the table. "Ok, so I got the caterers, the venue, and the music, so now all we need is the guest list. Which now that I'm thinking about it, probably should've been one of the first things we did . . . " I bite the end of the pen in trepidation and glance up.
Shoto takes another bite out of the sandwich I made him and hums in delight.
I beam at him like an idiot, "You like it?"
He finishes chewing and wipes his mouth with a napkin, "Yes. Very much. Thank you." He gives me a close-eyed smile, before digging in for another bite.
My own smile slowly vanishes as I gawk at him like a deer in headlights.
Did he just smile?
With his eyes closed?
At me?!
I try to blink back my shock, but end up shifting my gaze down to the yellow notepad in my hands instead.
This probably isn't a big deal, but it's just – this is the first time Shoto looks . . . unguarded.
The entire time I've known him, he's usually so stoic and diplomatic. But right here – at my kitchen table – he's as comfortable as rice in a Chinese restaurant.
Haha.
I shake out of my stupor enough to genuinely reply, "My pleasure."
He washes down the last of his sandwich with some water and his mouth opens to say something, but just then, Bakugou yells from the living room, "It's too quiet over there! Did someone die?"
Shoto is about to answer when I quickly grab his hand and lay a finger over my lips – hoping he gets the signal to be quiet.
Shoto immediately understands what I'm trying to do and starts to cautiously rise up from his seat.
With pleading eyes, I silently mouth out to him, What are you doing?
He moves his hands in a placating manner and mouths out, 'Follow me.'
My eyebrows furrow together in confusion. He ends up by my side not a second later, so I slowly start to leave my chair as well.
What is this boy up to?
Bakugou calls out again, "Hello? Last time I checked you both had mouths."
He goes on, "(Y/n)? Everything alright?" His tone becoming less and less playful and more and more serious.
I have second thoughts right then and there and immediately regret ever doing this in the first place.
We both hear some ruffling on the other side of the wall and assume Bakugou is getting up to come over and inspect the situation.
Shoto then hurriedly takes my gloved hand and locks us in the nearest closet.
I whisper/yell at him, "What are you doing?!"
He shushes me and peaks through the crack in the door, "I don't think he saw us."
I deeply exhale and pray that Bakugou won't kill me at the end of this.
When I hear his voice again, it's considerably closer and I have to actively restrain myself from barging right out and jumping into his arms.
"Babe? Icy-hot? Where the fuck are you guys?"
Then out of nowhere, Shoto blasts open the door and freezes the floor beneath Bakugou's feet. "HAPPY HANUKKAH!"
Bakugou yelps and curses, "Shit!" as he struggles on the slippery ice before catching himself on the edge of the island.
