When I get back to my room I expect Vega to be there, but she isn't. She must be with Dariyah still. I run over to my room and grab one of the books I was reading. It's where I got the mind-clearing spell.
If a Psy Caster is messing with my mind, I want to know. I want to protect myself, and what better way than to learn some new spells?
"That was impressive," Joni says behind me.
"I don't have time for—"
I turn to face her but I freeze in place, she has on that mask, from the ball, her sharp green eyes staring at me. It was her, she was the one I danced with at the ball.
She smirks at my reaction and takes the mask off.
"What's wrong, you look like you've seen a ghost." She walks towards me.
I mean I figured she was in on the wired cult, but why reveal herself to me now?
I back up until my leg hits the bed and I stumble back and end up sitting on the bed looking up at her.
"Fighting Nerissa like that, you got guts. You were able to hold her off with just a simple spell or two, and you aren't even fully powered."
"Y-You saw?" I ask.
"Oh, I've been watching you for some time now. Me, and a few others." She says.
"What do you want with me? Who are you people?" I demand.
"All in due time. No need to feel threatened, I come in peace." She holds up her hands.
"I find that hard to believe, I'm calling Vega." I reach for my phone. She slaps it out of my hands and pins me down to the bed.
I gulp and look up at her.
I used too much energy on Nerissa, no way I can fight Joni off.
She knows this.
"Relax, I'm just here to ensure your decision to join us. I mean now that you and Nerissa are fighting, I didn't want that to mess up anything."
"Why would I join you when I don't know the first thing about you!?"
"We can help you." She pulls back, letting me go before sitting next to me.
I sit up and turn to her.
"We can help you master your powers and be even greater than you are now. You'll be so powerful Nerissa will be like a flea to you."
"I don't want power," I say.
"Don't be so sure." She grabs the book I was just looking at.
I eye her.
"You want to get to the bottom of things? You want to protect yourself from Psy Casters, then you need us." She shows me the spell for breaking as Psy hold.
"I just want to know who did this to me." I declare.
"We can help. Join us, join me, and we can help you."
"How do I know you guys aren't the ones who did this to me?" I ask.
"You don't, but all the more reason to join and find out." she shrugs.
"No, no no no, if anything you just convinced me not to join." I stand up.
"What if I told you some of the people you know are already with us?"
"Who? Vega?" I ask.
She snorts in amusement.
"Some of your friends." She says when I eye her.
