hi everyone, i hope you're all well and lovely
here's the part 2 that was highly requested oh so long ago :)
this is actually slightly based off a breakup i'm going through atm, and how i wish things could go-- please enjoy!
navigating uncertain situations had never been your strong suit. you liked structure and understanding what you were supposed to be doing in any given circumstance. so, no wonder you couldn't shake the anxiety gnawing slowly at your stomach. your fingers twisted your rings stacked on your middle fingers, the silver cool to the touch in the heated palm of your hand.
"it's okay." vinnie stated, eyes trailing from your interlocked fingers to meet your own, a reassuring look in his eyes. he nodded down to your fingers as if to explain what he was saying. "i feel the same way– you're not alone in that." he gave a lop-sided grin with one side of his lips, not enough to offend you, but just to show you that he was still there, and that this didn't have to be anything you didn't want to make it.
your cheeks flushed at his words; of course he knew that was the right thing to say. it was irritating and comforting all at once, and you decided to take the comfort and use it.
"so," you started, leaning back to adjust your weight in the booth, finally looking up again to meet vinnie's gaze, "what brings you in here?"
vinnie nodded his head at your words and turned the coffee cup in his hands in repeated circles. "i needed the caffeine today, and i didn't think a drive thru would cut it for me." you silently chuckled at his words, because it was such a vinnie statement to make, you could've predicted it.
"i assume you're here pretty often?" he asked, and you nodded in response.
	"every wednesday and fri-"
"friday morning," he finished for you, the smallest smile sitting on his lips. your heart sparked slightly at his words, out of despair or excitement, you couldn't tell, so you took a long drink from your cup to help distract yourself. "always a creature of habit, i knew it wouldn't change." you gently rolled your eyes at him, but the look on his face assured you he knew what you meant.
a soft silence lulled between the both of you, not uncomfortable, just very new territory to navigate. you couldn't blame either of you– this wasn't something you can really prepare yourself for, regardless of the position you'd left things in when the two of you split. the fact that you were even this far, and comfortable enough to sit across from him in a public place, was more than enough for you.
it was hard for your brain to sort through things that you deemed appropriate to ask or talk about in this current situation, but at the end of the day, you two were together at one point, meaning residual feelings and care for one another definitely existed. you didn't want to overstep a boundary of his and ask the wrong thing, but you also had nothing to lose. this was as raw as it was going to get between you both, and you knew that however this went down, things would be okay on the other side.
"how are you, vinnie?" you asked, breaking the quiet between the both of you. his eyes widened at the sudden question, and his heart jumped a little hearing his name out of your mouth.
"i'm doing okay," he started, nodding as if to reassure himself that things were as he said they were. "things have been great with social media, for the most part, and i've put a lot of work into myself that i think i needed." his heart felt heavy to admit such a thing, as if he couldn't have done those things still in a relationship with you, but he wanted to answer honestly, because you deserved it.
