relationship: dating, established relationship

it was early, maybe 5:30am, and you didn't for the life of you understand why you were wide awake. you'd been watching your boyfriend play video games until you couldn't keep your eyes open and fell asleep around midnight, but it'd only been five hours since then, which definitely isn't enough sleep for you to thrive off of for a whole day.

you internally groaned at the fact that you knew you weren't getting back to sleep, and decided to attempt an escape from the grip of vinnie's arms around your waist. it was a slow process, one that you've had to master on a few different occasions, and with minimal unnecessary movements, you were now standing beside your bed, with your boyfriend still fast asleep on his side. leaving a light kiss on his forehead, you pulled on a pair of loose boxer shorts you found on the floor, and padded down to the kitchen in hopes to find something to drink.

you weren't super familiar with the house yet, vinnie only having been out here for maybe two months or so, meaning you've visited twice, but you knew where the cups were, more specifically the mugs, and how to run their coffee machine. you carefully plucked your coffee pod from the drawer they were organized in, and placed it in the keurig, and waited for it to work it's magic. the fresh aroma of the vanilla latte left your mouth watering, and you couldn't wait to enjoy it slowly, and take some time to yourself with the sunrise.

obviously you loved being here with vinnie, and spending as much time with him and the friends that you've made out here in LA, but being alone wasn't such a bad thing, either. having a moment to catch your breath and some time to self reflect makes all the difference in the world.

once your latte was finished brewing, you grabbed the mug by the handle, and slowly walked over to the sliding door leading out to the patio, snatching a thick blanket off the couch along the way. you gently closed the door behind you, and strolled over to the lounge chairs arranged around the pool, and curled up into one, a small smile on your lips.

you loved being in the city, especially in the early morning with the haze-free views of the ocean in the distance, and the beautiful hues of the sunrise blending together to make a scene worth waking up so early for.

with you lost inside of your own thoughts, you didn't recognize the sound of the sliding door quietly opening and closing shut, and you missed the slow footsteps of your now half-awake boyfriend as he padded towards you heavy on his feet. he slowly sat down behind you on your lounge chair, a small gasp leaving your lips as you recognized his presence.

"well, about time you noticed me. i was getting worried you were hurting yourself from thinking too hard," he mumbled into your bare shoulder, gently wrapping his arms around your waist to rest on your hips as he pulled you back into his hooded torso.

you let out a small giggle at his words, turning your head backwards to meet his gaze, your smile growing bigger at the sight. vinnie's auburn locks were tousled underneath his hood, his eyes still slightly puffy with sleep, a lazy smile laid across his lips, and a cup of coffee held in his left hand. "good morning to you, too, vin."

"good morning, baby." he grabbed your free hand that rested right beside his and began to fiddle with your fingers, leaning his head to lay atop your own. moments like these made you thankful to have vinnie in your life, and to know him at the intimate level that you're lucky to see. he's as transparent as he can be on his social media, and he doesn't hide much, but these little moments, the calm before the storm of the day, solidify the reasons that you fell in love with him in the first place, and it leaves a smile on your face every time something like this occurs.

vinnie breaks the silence, his voice cracking slightly from the left over sleep still caught in it, "so, why were you up at the ass crack of dawn this morning, again?" you groaned and leaned further back into him, both of your mugs left on the concrete patio to make moving around easier.
