"it's just a date, viv," you explained for what felt like the hundredth time to your friend who was squealing once again about the guy you agreed to see tonight. you sat staring into your vanity mirror, blush in one hand, attempting to find a look on pinterest you wanted to accomplish for the night.

"'just a date' – my ass, y/n. you have a crush, and you can't admit it." you rolled your eyes at her words, but internally you knew she was right.

you'd recently moved to LA to join a management team and your new friends had somehow convinced you to download Hinge, a dating app. you hadn't dated in a second, recovering after a long relationship downfall, but using this new start to your advantage didn't seem like such a bad idea.

"a crush is harmless. even if i had one– i don't– but if i did, then so what? might as well make a romantic version of him i can think about and entertain myself with," you said, opening your box full of eyeshadow pallets that you hadn't gotten around to organizing after the move-in.

"oh, y/n babe, you're in deep." vivian giggled at her own words and flopped down on your bed. "so, tell me about it. i kinda forgot what you already told me– his name's ricky, right?"

"vinnie," you corrected, snorting at her mistake. "he's 20, just like me, and he's pretty cool from what i can tell." you'd matched on Hinge about a week ago, and you'd been talking ever since, quite a bit, and it surprised you. from the assumptions you'd made about LA guys and their egos, vinnie seemed pretty down to earth and genuine.

you'd hit it off on a few things, music being your favorite one, and he was much better at carrying a conversation than you'd expected him to be. he'd asked for your number about two days into it, and you opted to give it to him. you were nervous at first, thinking he might be getting the wrong idea of what that could lead to, but vivian had shut you up and typed in the number herself. worst comes to worst, you can block the guy. – she certainly had a point.

he seemed so sweet, starting up conversations and asking genuine questions that he actually seemed to want to know the answer to. it had taken him roughly four days to ask you out on a date, or just to hang out in general, and he gave you the option of doing something casual or something he offered to plan, he'd explained it as his tour of the city as you'd just moved in, and you absolutely loved the idea. the thought that this boy was putting in this much effort for you, even before you'd met him? it definitely messed with you more than you'd ever admit to.

"he's cool, agreed," viv said while staring at her phone, scrolling through vinnie's instagram. that was one more thing about him that he'd let you know about 24 hours into talking– he was famous on social media. when he first told you, you'd laughed at the text and assumed a few thousand followers, maybe some minor modeling, but he was dead serious.

and the thought immediately intimidated you.

he gave you his instagram handle to ensure it was the correct one, and told you to go through it to get the gist of what he was trying to say, and you definitely understood while reading the comments and looking at the sheer amount of likes he was getting on a shirtless photo– close to one million likes.

you were honest with him in telling you that it was a lot to process, and the way he had so easily given you an out, and said that it's totally okay, i won't be offended, but i needed you to know and make your own decision had made you sad, as if it was common that this was the point where people started to bail. i mean sure, the thought was definitely looming over your head slightly, but who were you to judge him for that, or let your intimidation get in the way? you had immediately texted him back and told him that it didn't matter, and that you'd love to have him as your tour guide for the city.
