a/n:

welcome to the beginning of this book! i think imma do a thing where i describe the relationship to vinnie before you guys read it so you don't have to guess throughout haha

relationship: really good friends, possibly more?

you slowly closed the heavy door, smiling to your friends who were groaning for you to come back inside, just stay a little longer, y/n. you knew deep down that you'd reached your limit of socializing for the moment being, and you needed to rejuvenate yourself so you or your emotions didn't spiral out of control.

you leaned against the now shut door, letting your eyes slip shut and exhaling a deep breath you didn't know you'd taken. you were tired. exhausted, over it, wanting to do nothing more than crawl under your covers and hide from the world that had swallowed you whole in the last few weeks. you felt bad, leaving your friends on the one night of the week you'd all established as your "friends night", but you could feel yourself slipping into a darker place by the minute, and it wasn't until you were outside and alone that you realized how deeply your thoughts had already consumed you.

you loved your friends to the ends of the earth, they were always there to support you and love you when you couldn't love yourself, and you knew they didn't care one bit about you leaving for your own mental health, but you couldn't help the guilt that steadily began to creep into your mind as you walked further away from the modern home to the street where your car sat.

slowly sliding into the driver's seat, you started the engine and began to choose your music for the ride home, when all of a sudden the interior lights of the car lit up, and your passenger side door opened. your eyebrows furrowed, but soon smoothed out after looking up to see who it was.

"vinnie? what're you doing out here?" you asked, settling upon his eye contact and setting your phone down on the top of your thigh.

"hello to you too, y/n. don't sound so disappointed to see me," he chuckled, plopping himself down in the passenger seat and closing the door gently once he was situated. you giggled softly at his words, shaking your head at his classic sarcasm laced into his voice.

"for real though, why'd you come out here? and follow me to my car? stalker move much?" you responded, biting your lower lip attempting to hold in another chuckle. he smiled and turned towards you, resting his elbow on the center counsel.

"me, a stalker? now i think you've definitely got the wrong guy." he paused, looking down at his fingers, fiddling a few of his rings on his left hand, seemingly debating his next words carefully.

"are you okay?" you asked, confused as to what he was going to say, but nonetheless wanting to be a supportive friend, even if your mind wasn't in the best state to do so. "you know you can always talk to me, right?" vinnie looks back up to you, and lets out a harsh breath masked with a chuckle, running his fingers through his hair.

"yeah, yeah i know." another pause, and a deep breath. "and that's why i actually wanted to come and ask you if you were okay." the car went quiet after he said those words, vinnie continuing to twist his rings, and your eyes widened, curious as to why he wanted to ask about you. "i'm not meaning to like, pry, or whatever, but you seemed a little distant from yourself inside and you leaving early was kinda sketchy, well not sketchy but--"

"hey," you cut him off, lifting your hand to settle on his wrist that rested between you two, "thank you for asking. like honestly, you're not seeming intrusive at all, i promise," you replied, a soft smile resting on your lips as you watched his face ease with relief. he nodded and looked back down at his fingers for a second before matching your eye contact once more.
