They arrived early like the Doctor said they should. His plan was to look around the area and find the best places the woman would hide a sniper in. Although the Doctor insisted they try not to kill anyone, Mal know Jayne wouldn't take that seriously. Mal, Zoe, and Jayne then left to bury the crates. On the way out, Zoe turned to Mal.
"Sir, you sure we wanna trust this man and this little plan of his? For all we know he could be working with Patience or even the Alliance. We don't even know his name."
"What has the man done do far to make us suspicious? Besides, how could he even have know we was comin' to Whitefall?" Mal said.
"I just don't like 'em He looks like trouble. Did you see the way he jumped at the opportunity of a stand off?"
"He helped us form a plan so we could get payed. Plus, I don't have to cut him in on the money either."
Zoe looked around the area they were going to meet Patience in. "Nice place for an ambush." She said.
"That it is." Mal said. It was a very wide and open valley with dried up tumblers all around. Jayne stumbled down almost out of breath, handing Mal a gold bar.
"I buried then good. Equipments back on the boar." Jayne then placed a mic. in his ear. "Testing, testing, captain can you hear me?"
"I'm standing right here." Mal said.
"You're comin' through good and loud." Jayne said oblivious to the stupidity he was speaking. Mal turned to him with a 'really' look on his face.
"Cause I'm standin' right here."
"Yeh well bu- the transmitters." Jayne stopped himself. Mal walked forward pointing in a flat direction.
"Alright." He started. "Patience is gonna figure we buried the cargo. Which means puttin' us to our ease for there's any action. She'll come at us from the east. Talk a location out of us. She'll have a coin to show us first. We get it, give the location. Snipers hit us from there and there." Mal said pointing to two of the valleys peaks.
"You figure they're in place?" Jayne asked.
"Should be. Feel like takin' walk 'round the park?" Mal asked.
"Sure you don't just wanna piss yourself and back down like you did with Badger?" Jayne asked.
"Walk soft." Mal said ignoring the insult. "I want Patience to think they're still in place. Remember what the Doctor requested, so don't kill no one you don't have to. Here to make a deal."
"Don't think it's a good spot sir." Zoe said. "She still has the advantage over us."
"Everyone always does." Mal said. "That's what makes us special."

On Serenity the Doctor and Kaylee were having a peasant conversation. Just small talk, when River woke up. She sat up and looked around. She called out Simon's name worried that he might have left her there.
"What's wrong sweetie?" Kaylee asked. River looked at Kaylee then the Doctor. She recognized him from the earlier, short, conversation they had when she first met him.
"It's nice to see that you're up again." The Doctor said. River was still sleepy from the drugs Simon gave her. With her eyes half open, she tried to swing her legs around but because of the drugs she ended up swinging her body around. The Doctor rushed over to help her steady. She had no room to protest so she let him help her up. She looked up at him studying him.
"There was energy. Power, a-and energy. D-Doctor, doctor who helps but doesn't help." River muttered rather than said out loud. She shrugged the Doctors hands off, her eyes locked on his in confusion. The Doctor shared the same confusion.
"River, what are you talking about?" The Doctor asked. He made no sudden movements, she was like a deer.
"A change, changing and the pain that comes with it." River mumbled again. "Simon." River was now backing out of the infirmary. "Simon."
"River, everything's fine." The Doctor said. "Come back over here." Kaylee took a suspicious look at the Doctor. River then turned to look outside the infirmary.
The Doctor stepped forward, now close to her elbow and tried to lead her back to the bed. She jerked away looking at him with terror.
"I know, I remember." River said. The Doctor looked confused again. "You look the same." She looked down at herself. "I look different though, but we're the same." A look of curiosity crossed both of their faces.
"River, what are you talking about?" The Doctor asked. She tilted her head and gave him a crooked smile.
"Spoilers." And just as the smile came, it crumpled into pain. "It hurts." She said, backing up out of the infirmary. She looked around confused again. Then out of no where, Mr. Dobson comes out and grabs her around her neck, holding a gun to her head.
"Look at you." Dobson said. "All woke up." River cringed at the sight of the gun. Dobson pulled another from behind his back and pointed it at Kaylee and the Doctor. "Oh I', sorry about what happened before, but make so much as a sound. The next on goes through your throat."
