Mal and Zoe both ran into the pilots room one thing in mind. Reavers.

"How close are they?" Mal asked out of breath from the run.

"Bout twenty seconds from spitting distance." Wash said.

"Lose them."

"Give me a second." Wash sighed.

"Ai ya. Women manle." Zoe said seeing how close the reavers were.

"How close do they have to be to fire those grappling hooks?" Mal asked. At the same time Jayne was on the com. cursing at Wash, saying something about how slow he was.

"If everyone could just be quiet a moment." Wash said. "I need Kaylee in the engine room. Please."

"Can she even-" Zoe tried to ask.

"Zoe get her there now." Mal ordered.

Zoe did as Mal said. She ran down into the infirmary where Jayne, Simon, the Doctor, River, and Shepard were with Kaylee.

"Captain needs you in the engine room. Now." Zoe said to Kaylee, although she looked frazzled she looked around to the others not sure what to do.

"Jayne, Shepard, get Kaylee up and carry her to the engine room will you please." The Doctor said taking off his tweed jacket. "Simon you stay with River, and Zoe go back to Mal and Wash. We'll get Kaylee to the engine room and she can instruct us on what we need to do." The Doctor was jumping around as he spoke. He always loved the adrenaline rush when things got intense. Zoe picked up on this and didn't like it at all, however he looked like he knew what he was doing so she only nodded her head. She made a mental note and stowed it away for later.

Kaylee looked to the Doctor. "Looks like you finally get to see the engine room."

"Exciting isn't it?" The Doctor asked.

"If you like the life or death kind I suppose so." Simon said.

"Isn't that the best kind?" The Doctor said, his grin spreading almost like a Cheshire cat. Everyone gave him a strange look. "Let's go!" He said to Jayne and Shepard. The nodded and picked Kaylee up gingerly leading the Doctor to the engine room.

"Kaylee." Wash's voice came over the com. "How we doin'? Gonna need a little push here."

"You wan' me to go for a full burn?" She asked.

"Not just yet. But set it up."

Jayne and Shepard sat Kaylee down to where she was propped up and could see the whole room. The Doctor came in shortly and marveled at the piece of equipment.

"She's magnificent." He said. Kaylee smiled.

"You know how to set up for full burn?" She asked.

"More or less." The Doctor said. "But that's also part of the excitement." He pulled out his sonic screwdriver and started buzzing it everywhere. He pressed a couple of buttons on the side wall and smiled at Kaylee as she smiled back approvingly.

"Kaylee," Wash's voice came again. "How would you feel about pullin' a crazy Ivan?"

"I've always wanted to try one." She said. "Jayne, open the port jack control, cut the hydraulics." Jayne turned around and started looking everywhere, very clueless.

"The hell is-"

"Look, Look! Look where I'm pointing." She said as she fiercely pointed at a small box. Jayne walked to it and opened it slowly peeking inside. There were wires and lights galore. "Now it's real simple." She said. Jayne looked at her, then the Doctor.

"You come do this," Jayne said. The Doctor looked into the box as Kaylee gave her instructions. He tried to do some of the things she said but used his sonic to speed things up.

"Kaylee." Wash said again.

The Doctor looked at Kaylee telling her that everything was done. She nodded her head in understanding.

"Ok." She said, her voice was getting smaller though.

"Everybody hold onto something." Wash said, ans Serenity was off with a ferocious shake. It turned around completely throwing off the reavers. "Now!" Wash said cuing Shepard and Jayne for their big moment. They pushed and pulled leavers to activate full burn and they were off!

"Geronimo!" The Doctor screamed in joy, as if her was on a roller coaster. Kaylee also started to scream and laugh, but hers was more a nervous laugh than anything. Once they were out of atmo Jayne and Book jumped in with their screaming. Now everyone in that room was screaming in joy and excitement, quieting only when they could hear the com. come on again.

"We're good people. We're outta the woods." Mal said.

The Doctor and Jayne were jumping around and Book sat down trying to collect himself once more. The Doctor noticed Kaylee stroking the ships wall.

"That's my girl." She whispered. "That's my good girl." Kaylee met the Doctors eyes, then slumped over. The Doctor reacted like everyone else, and tried to catch her. He slowly laid her down as Book and Jayne also ran over.

"What's wrong with her?" Jayne asked.

"The movement. It opened her wound again." The Doctor said.

"Can't the other Doc. fix her up again?" Jayne asked, his big brother side showing.

"She's lost to much blood. She might survive a little longer but she would suffer in a slow death." The Doctor said looking to a worried Shepard and Jayne. He then turned to face them and changed his tone of voice. "Ok, what happens next is to save her." He said calmly. "Do not stop it, don't try to stop it. Ok? I'll be answering questions soon anyways so just pile them up in your mind, but right now she's dieing and in order to save her life I must tell you to do nothing. Understand?" The Doctor finished his speech looking intensely at Book and Jayne whose mouths were open now. They nodded in understanding and the Doctor turned back to the fading Kaylee.

Then Doctor placed both hands on her, one on her heart the other on her wound. He then transferred a bit more regeneration energy to her, making sure it went to her this time. Jayne and Book looked horrified, maybe even backed up a little, but not once did they try to stop him. Kaylee's body then looked like it was shocked and she turned to her side coughing and gasping for air. She looked at the Doctor, then Jayne and Book.

"What happened?" She asked confused.

"Welcome back." The Doctor said to her smiling sweetly.
