My Regrets (Ran Mitake x Male Reader)

Chapter 22

*Ran's POV*

I was still running, making my way over to the park as fast as I could. It's not too far from where I was, but I need to make that I don't miss him. It was the last place I was going to look after all. When I made it to the park, I had to catch my breath a little bit before I could look at my surroundings to see if he was in the area and sure enough, he was there, next to the sandpit.

(Ran): (Y/N)...

He turned his head towards my direction as he heard me say his name. His head was facing towards me with no shock or surprised expression on his face. It's like he expected me to find him. He then turned his head back and walked to the open space part of the area.

I walked over next to him as he was just staring at the open space. Wait, this is where...

(Y/N): Ran.

(Ran): Y-yeah?

(Y/N): You remember how we first met here? 

(Ran): Yeah, Tomoe, Himari, and Tsugumi were playing tag, while Moca and I were playing shop. I asked you if you wanted to play with us.

(Y/N): I was really happy when you invited me. It's a memory that I still remember to this day. Though, I still wish that dad was able to come with us to the park when I was still a kid.....

The memories we shared together, it's good to reminisce about the past but, with the memories that you have, I know that you're still hurting, the pain that you're carrying within you.

(Ran): (Y/N), Taiko told me everything about what happened to your father when you were living in Shibuya..... I just wanted you to know.....

(Y/N), was silent, he was casting his head down not saying a word. Was this the right approach? Just then he broke the silence.

(Y/N): Let's sit over at the swings.

He walks towards the said area and sits down on one of them, as I followed suit on the one next to him. We sat there for a few minutes in silence. I thought what, Taiko had told us back at Tsugumi's cafe. 

When Taiko told me about (Y/N)'s past, it reminded me that I did the same thing with my dad. But by comparing our outcomes, (Y/N) got the worst end of it when his dad was never able to make it..... That really must've hit him hard.....

(Y/N): You know...

(Ran): Hmm?

(Y/N): Dad and I never really gotten along, didn't really interact with each other much. He was always so busy with work. We didn't get to spend time together, even as a kid. Mom was the only one who took me to the park where I could play with you girls. You never seen him shown up once, did you?

(Ran): Now that you mention it, no.....

(Y/N): Even when we had to move out, it was still the same for us. Our relationship as father and son hasn't gotten any better. I just left it as is. I just assumed everything that I did that he wasn't even interested in me.

(Ran): I had no idea.....

(Y/N): Taiko and I participated in concerts as you heard from him I assume, though I don't know when we started, we enjoyed it nonetheless when we sang up on stage. Dad probably must've learned about it for a good while. And that one day, when he finally decided to talk to me.

(Ran): ......

(Y/N): I was confused, but also angry and annoyed when he told me I should stop singing. But after I gave him the tickets to attend the next event that I was gonna participate in, I was excited. I thought, at last, our relationship as father and son will finally have a moment together. Until that fateful day.....
