Sarah was frozen as Kakashi held her tight.  Her mind was literally blank, and she didn't know what she should do.  Her heart was pounding against her chest.  He had been holding her like that for what seemed like an eternity before she finally snapped out of her stupor and hugged him back.  She then frowned as his words fully processed in her brain.  She would have pulled away, but his grip tightened when she started to move.

"Um... Kakashi..." Sarah said.

"Hmm?"

Sarah felt like she had stepped into an alternate reality... was he rubbing her back now?!  "Kakashi... what are you talking about?  You didn't taint me... I don't understand-"

He pulled his head back a bit to meet her eyes.  She stilled as his gray eyes were so close that she could see the various shades of gray in his eyes, and she was startled that he actually had a very faint trace of green towards the center.  It was so pale a green that unless you were this close to him, you'd never know.

"It's my fault that happened to you, Sarah," he said softly.

Sarah frowned at him, "What are you babbling about, Kakashi Hatake?  I'm the one who made that decision, not you.  God, we hadn't even seen each other in three years when that happened."  She then grinned at him, "We really need to work on you taking on the whole of everything on your shoulders.  You're not the Hokage anymore." She then looked down and made a face, "Damn, I think you're all wet now like I am.  I'm sorry."

Kakashi didn't even look, not caring that her damp clothes had made his wet as well.  He narrowed his eyes a little as he remembered exactly how she had got wet in the first place.  She had yet to notice that he was still holding her.  He hadn't meant to enjoy holding her when he had moved around to her side.  His horror at realizing she had been inflicted because of Obito's hatred towards him had him moving over to her side to wrap her in his arms.  Yet as he held her, the smell of her body spray (which was a combination of vanilla and apples) filled his senses and he had closed his eyes, breathing it in.  The way she pressed against him and the sound of her heartbeat getting faster had quickly overtook his senses.

He started to reach up to take his mask off, fully intending on kissing her again like he had all those years ago when the waitress suddenly reappeared.  He cursed inwardly and released her finally.  This was definitely not the place to be having this sort of conversation.  Once the waitress left, he started to say something but was stopped as Sarah had taken her napkin and was trying to dry off the front of his shirt.  The movement was messing with his libido, and he had to redirect his thoughts fast.

"What happened to your husband?"

She looked up at him for a moment before giving a sad smile.  Well, that worked for his libido and made him want to kick himself. "He got in the middle of something he wasn't prepared for.  Tyvik was a farmer and knew almost nothing about fighting, definitely didn't have an ounce of Ninjutsu in him... but he was big and strong.  His family had been farmers for generations... Actually, I think they might have been part of the Hatake clan many generations ago."

His mouth twitched a bit at that, "Possibly but I'm the last of my clan directly."

She nodded her head, "I was eight months pregnant with Phoenix, so I wasn't out helping him obviously that day in the fields.  He heard a scream while out there and went to investigate.  He was always looking out for others.  A group of travelers had been set upon by some rogue Ninja and he tried to intervene.  He was killed in the process."  She clinched her fist, "Some of our Shinobi arrived just as they killed him.  If he had been only a few minutes later...  They brought him home and helped dig a grave when they saw how far along I was.  Orion was out on a mission at the time."  She made a face, "It all sounds like I've had a crappy life told like this, but it really hasn't been that bad."
