TW- blood and death
Part 2-
Grian POV-
We didn't want to leave the valley. The two of us together was as heaven. We enjoyed out lunch, sharing kisses and laughs. I went swimming as Scar rested his legs but he couldn't get way fast enough when I gave a giant huge, getting him covered in the icy water that dripped off of me. He told me about building the valley as we basked in the sunlight, his hat thrown over the log that held my drying sweater.
When the afternoon sun had disappeared behind the tall cliffs, we decided that it was time to head back. I wasn't worried about it getting dark, we had time. But then Scar collapsed.
He had been walking in front of me but he was now in a crumpled lump just off of the path. He had pulled his legs to his chest and gingerly held them while lying on his side. I rush to his side, kneeling just beside behind him. I place a hand on his shoulder to roll him towards me, his head resting on my legs.
"I'm sorry Grian. My legs are just too tired. The braces aren't helping anymore. I shouldn't of done all of this. I- I was just so excited t-to do this wi-with you. And now we are stuck wi-with nothing!"
I hold his head, running my fingers through his hair while he begins to cry, "Scar. No. It's okay. I'm glad we did this. I finally got you. We'll just take a break and continue. We'll be fine"
I was talking gently and soothingly to him, but in side I thought I was going to throw up. If we didn't hurry, we would be stuck outside at night in a place with no shelter or light. We'd be sitting ducks for the zombies for sure. Neither of us had any armour and the only weapon I had was my dagger.
We sat in the edge of the path for must longer than I wanted, but I can't carry Scar so I need him to walk. The shadows had lengthened and the air has the crisp taste of night by the time Scar decided to stand. We did it together as Scar need me to stand. He threw an arm around me as I lifted him with an arm at his waist. Each step was painfully slow but Scar was grimacing in pain so I didn't rush him.
Scar was pretty determined to get home and we decided that once Scar was on Apollo, I'd tie his legs to the stirrups then Scar would lean forwards to remove some of the weight and I would guide Apollo from where I was seated on Moonshine.
That would have worked, however painful for Scar, but at the first sounds of skeletons, we made it to the clearing where we had left the two horses and Apollo was gone. I set Scar down by a tree and rush to where Apollo had been tied; the halter was gone so the chestnut horse must have worked the knot free. I curse under breath for not double checking it. Scar wouldn't be able to ride on Moonshine without his saddle so I couldn't lead them on foot. The only way to make it home would be to ride double with Scar riding princess style on my saddle while sit behind him. It would easier if Scar could use the stirrups, but my saddle wasn't made to accommodate his braces. As I study Moonshine, trying to determine if the gentle black horse could handle crying both of us, in such awkward positions, for the 2000 block return trip when I hear Scar cry out.
I whip around, pulling my dagger from where it tucked in its sheath under my jeans. Scar was frantically half crawling half scooting away from an approaching zombie. I dive towards the mob and stab it in the chest, blood spilling out over my arm and sweater as I drag the dagger down through the zombie's rotting flesh. It collapses in a bundle in front of me as another zombie punches me straight in the face. I stagger, my head snapping due to the momentum, as my eyes water and warm blood trickles down my check from where the skin had split. I quickly recover and dropped, rolling through the zombie's legs as it goes to grab my arm. I stand up and stab my dagger into the side of the mob's head.
"GRIAN!"
I pull the dagger out as the zombie collapses and run to Scar, punching the spider standing over top of him. The spider, stumbles, trips in a flurry of legs as I pick Scar up, cradling him. Adrenaline pumping in my body, I somehow stagger to Moonshine and, straining under Scar's weight, I place him on my saddle. I quickly thanked Notch that Moonshine was a fairly short horse, then I ran to untie the black stallion who had a wild look its eye from the mobs closing in on us.
Once the bit was in the horse's mouth and the reins thrown up to Scar, I slip my foot into the stirrup and jump on Moonshine's back. Sitting just behind the saddle, I could barely get my feet in the stirrups but worked nonetheless. Scar was leaning over the stallion's neck, but he quickly leans back into me, grasping around my waist to stay steady as I lead Moonshine around the mobs.
We escaped the clearing and forest quickly. I kept Moonshine at a quick walk knowing that trotting would probably end with both Scar and I on the ground. My heart was racing, hands sweating, and Scar was whimpering at every step, clearly in pain. Then the worst happened.
Scar cried out in agony as an arrow protruded from his back. Some idiot skeleton, in front of us, had hit its mark. I reequip the blood covered dagger and throw it at the culprit. I hit my mark, the dagger dug hilt deep into the skeleton's skull, as it shatters into a pile of bones.
I slow Moonshines walk, and gently cradle Scar's sobbing body. I'm crying. "No. No. Scar. It can't end this way. You've got to stay with me okay?"
"Grian..."
"Yes, it's okay. Just keep talking. We'll get you home."
"Grian..." This time Scar is barely whispering.
"Please no. You've got to stay here. I only just found you."
"Grian stop."
"Why?"
Scar was looking up at me, disappointment evident in his eyes, "You know I'll respawn right?"
I pout down at him, "Yes, but let me enjoy being dramatic."
"Dork."
And with that he faded from my view. The only thing left of him was a couple leftover pieces of our lunch and his blood covering my saddle and hands. And just to keep up my act, I screamed at the sky until I felt pain blossom in my chest, glancing down to see an arrow just as darkness surrounded me.
