"Son, you got a special girl in mind for valentine's day?" Naomi asked Rodney.
She was sitting on the sofa across from him with her legs tucked under her butt. She anxiously waited for her son's response.
"Not really." He said nonchalantly.
Her eyes saddened and she pouted. She was ready for her son to start dating. She had missed pretty much of all his life and was in a rush to gain back all the lost time.
Rodney noticed the change in his mother's behavior. "But there is someone I might consider."
"Who?!" She beamed.
"Akia."
"Camay's daughter?!"
"Yea."
"Yes! Yes! Yes!" She bounced in her seat. "Trent! Trent!"
"Yes baby." Trent said as he came into the living room.
"Better start moving your old shit out the guest room because now it's mine!"
"Son! What the hell wrong with you?!"
Rodney scrunched up his face in confusion. "What I do?"
"We had a bet that Akia would either end up with you or Jamal. I betted on you." Naomi responded.
"Dang pops, you ain't have no faith in me?!" Rodney said sounding offended.
"Naw, I knew you could have got her, but she had known Jamal longer. I didn't expect her to wanna be with you."
Rodney shook his head and laughed at his parents. "So what was the bet?"
"Well if I won-"
"Which he didn't."
"Then I could've turned the guest room into...a play room."
"A play room? Aren't you too old for that."
"Not the kinda of room I'm talking about."
Rodney's eyes widen. He had seen 50 Shades of Grey. "Ok ew. Too much information."
"Like you don't do it."
"I don't."
"You're a virgin?!" Naomi exclaimed.
"What?! No! It's just been a while."
"Oh so you be fuckin?!"
"Ma! Calm down."
"Yea bae. You gettin a lil rowdy."
"I'm just saying! He don't need to be out here fucking all these lil fast ass girls."
Rodney rolled his eyes. He was ready for this conversation to be redirected. "Ma what you get for winning the bet?"
"I get to turn one of our guest rooms into a sauna." She beamed. "But don't think just cause you changed the subject I forgot about the fact that you out here fuckin!"
"Ok Son." Trent intervened. "Let's go outside before your mother starts flippin shit."
The men quickly escaped out the back door. Trent grabbed a basketball and passed it to Rodney. Rodney took the shot and missed.
"Damn son, anything else on ya mind?"
Rodney couldn't tell his dad about the agency. He had been protecting Jamal and Darnell for this long. He didn't know how much longer he could keep it up. It was honestly wearing him down.
"Naw, it's just..how am I gonna go about asking Akia to go out with me. I don't think she realizes I'm interested."
"Have you made any passes at her?"
"Not really. I mean, we talk all the time and there is a lil bit of flirting, but maybe she thinks it's harmless."
"Well son, you're never gonna know until you put yourself out there. Let her know what's up."
"Yea, I hear ya man."
:
"Darnell I can't believe you got me in this girly ass store." Jamal looked around Victoria Secret. He was more than ready to go.
"Man shut up. You would be lookin too if you would actually stop playin with these girls and settle down with one."
"Man its senior year. We ain't gonna be worried bout these girls after graduation."
"You not." He mumbled.
Darnell learned that Essence was going up North to attend New York University and studying literature. This thrilled him cause he was sure to get signed by the New York Knicks or somewhere close. So he wanted to make sure to make Essence his before they went up there. He planned on making her his Saturday night.
He and Essence had became a lot closer and related on a lot of things like their childhood and raising. He never felt this connected with a female and was enjoying the feeling.
Jamal rolled his eyes as he watched his best friend sort through lingerie sets. "Do you even know her bra size?!"
"Um, no. Does it matter?"
"Yes nigga." Jamal was thankful for his mother and sister or he would be just as confused as Darnell.
"Well what do I do now?"
"Just go look at the racks over there." He said pointing to some racks that had clothes with the PINK logo on it. "Find her a cute shirt or something."
Darnell chuckled at his choice of words." A cute shirt or something." He mocked.
"Man fuck you." Jamal left Darnell in the store and went into Footlocker.
He saw a pair of Nike LeBron 12 - All Star shoes on display.
Aye these hoes dope. He thought.
"Oh yo, my man." He called out to one of the sales associates. "When these hoes come out?"
"This Saturday. Valentines day to be exact.
"Stop playin with these girls and settle down." Those words replayed in Jamal's head.
If he could really sit and think of a girl he would consider settling down with, it would be Ebony.
She's funny, smart, sexy, and short. Just how he likes em. He licked his lips with the thought of her.
"Let me get a ticket for these shoes in a kids size 6.5 and a men's 11."
"I got you do."
"Cool." Jamal nodded his head approvingly. "Cool."
