“How long was I in the hospital Mom?” Sophia crept forward and peeked into the kitchen. You could call it spying, but Soph didn’t care. Not now anyways. A few days ago Ryan sent her text saying they needed to talk.

“A few weeks hun,” Helena simply answered.

“R-Ryan,” Sophia walked in, as if she hadn’t been listening.

“Hey Sophie. What’s up?”

“Um… you wanted to talk?”

“Oh yeah huh? In a sec, kay Soph?” Wow, Ryan seemed so cheerful. What’s wrong with him? He’s nice some days and mean the other days. He’s probably on his man-period.

“Ok,” Sophia sighed, and walked to her room. She grabbed her iPod and flopped on her bed.

Ryan came in 2 minutes later, “Hey Soph.”

“Hey…. So… what did you want to talk about?”

“Um. Stuff, I guess.”

Sophia rolled her eyes and laughed, “Ryan, seriously you doofus!”

“Um… I guess I wanted to thank you for saving me. You could’ve ran out and saved yourself but you tried to save me.”

“Ryan, don’t be ridiculous, I passed out too.”

“Yeah, I know. Emphasis on the tried.”

“…”

“The doctors say if you hadn’t called for help when you did… if you hadn’t woken up. If I just stayed passed out another second later… I would’ve been a goner. So I owe you my life basically. I am your servant,” Ryan smirked.

“Ryan! You are not my servant!”

“But it’s the rules.”

“Then I order you to not be my servant!”

“That’s against the rules! For going against the rules I shall not have to owe my life to you.”

“Thank you!”

“But since you want me to stop being your servant, and you broke the rules, I have to be your servant.”

“Ryan - what??!”

“It’s by my choice.”

“You want to be my servant?” Sophia asked.

“I guess. But it’s because you broke the rules.”

“Whatever. I’m going down to the beach,” Sophia said, getting out of her bed.

“Imma go too. Maybe we’ll see Shaylah Newman,” Ryan grinned.

“I liked it better with you and Audrina,” Sophia muttered.

“What was that?” Ryan asked, cupping his ear with his hand, “Is someone a little jealous?”

“Not even! I just thought Shaylah was my friend and….”

“So what’s so bad about your friend going out with your other friend? Unless someone’s jealous?”

“I’M NOT, RYAN! Now can you please get out of here so I can change?”

“No thanks. I think I’m happy where I am right now,” Ryan smirked.

“Ugh! Get out!” Sophia tried pushing Ryan out the door.

“You’re too weak Sophie,” Ryan said as he walked out the door. Sophia rolled her eyes and changed into her bikini top and shorts.

--

“Ry-Ry!” Shaylah screamed as she hurled herself at Ryan, “Oh baby I missed you so much!”

“Yeah… about that Shaylah, I think we’re done.”

“What? No! Ryan! You… you, you jerk! You player! I should’ve known! What - who is it?? Is it Sophia?” Shaylah looked threateningly at Soph.

“Wha - not even!” Sophia said.

“Ugh! I thought you were my friend, Sophia!” Shaylah slapped her onto the ground.

“Hey! Don’t hit Sophie!” Ryan said, looking angry at Shaylah.

Sophia looked up at her, “Yeah Shay, that’s what I thought too.”

“Whatever. You two both suck,” Shaylah walked away.

After Ryan helped Sophia up and left to go find his buddies. Sophia walked alone by herself until a girl named Melissa Driscoll came up to her.

“Hey you’re Sophie right? I’m Melissa Driscoll. I saw what happened with Shaylah and let me tell you - she’s the Audrina wannabe. No one likes her except those two goons Mackenzie Der Torrossian and Breanne DeVries. She says she hates Audrina but… I read her diary.”

“It’s Sophia. Only Ryan and my parents and my friend from home calls me Sophie. And thanks, I get that Shaylah’s a bitch,” Sophia muttered.

“Well cool. My friends call me Mel,” Melissa grinned.

“Look Melissa, thanks for being nice to me and all, but Shaylah was nice to me too when I first met her. And look what’s happening now. It’s gonna take me a while to trust you,” Sophia sighed.

“I totally understand,” Melissa said, grabbing a pen, “Just let me give you my number in case you need me for… anything.”

“Thank you,” Sophia said as Melissa wrote her number down. When she left, Soph wondered whether or not to wash it away.
