It's finally time. The day I get my prosthetic. Not the real one, but I get fitted for one. I'm kind of nervous. Of course, I'm ready to walk again, but it won't be the same as it was before. I still won't have a leg, not a real one anyway.

But I'm ready. At least I think I am.

Zach is coming with me today. So are my mom and Emily. My dad is going to be with Tyler somewhere. I don't remember where they said they were going. I wish they could come too, but I'm glad Zach will be there. My dad eased up on him. He is okay with us being together now. He doesn't say anything about it anymore at least.

My mom is picking Zach up on the way. Emily is already over here because she lives next door. She came over about 10 minutes ago.

"Are you ready?" she asks me.

"I guess," I say.

"You don't seem excited. What's wrong? This is what you have been waiting for for 6 weeks."

"I know. Nothing's wrong. I just don't know what to expect."

"Well, there's only one way to find out. Let's go. Your mom is in the car."

"Okay."

Then we head out to the garage. I'm on my crutches today because the prosthetist told me it would be easier. I don't see what the difference is, but I've learned to never argue with a doctor.

When we get to Zach's house, he is already on the sidewalk.

"HEY" I sign to him. He signs it back.

When we get to the prosthetist's office, we ride the elevator up to the 4th floor. I pause at the door to Dr. Waters' office.

"WHAT'S WRONG?" Zach signs to me.

"NOTHING" I sign back. Then I walk through the door.

The place doesn't look anything like I thought it would. I was expecting a hospital-like place. Instead, it has carpeted floors and a front desk. The woman at the desk smiles at me.

"Do you have an appointment?" she asks me.

"Yes. Last name Morris for 2:30."

She starts typing on her computer for a second and then looks up.

"Here we are. Skylar Morris. Dr. Waters is waiting for you in room 2."

"Thank you," I tell her, noting the name tag that says Laura.

I go into room 2 with Mom, Emily, and Zach all following behind me. When I walk in I see a man who looks to be about 30. His coat says Dr. Alexander Waters. In the room, there are about 20 different prosthetic legs. They range from above the knee, to below the knee, to skin color, to black.

"Hello. Skylar is it?"

"Yes. Hello."

"Are you ready?" Dr. Waters asks me.

"I guess so."

"Alright. So today, we will just be fitting you for a leg. We will get your exact measurements and hopefully, it will be done within a week" he says.

"Okay."

"So why don't you sit over here and we can get started," he says pointing to a table that look like the ones at all other doctors' offices except there is no paper covering it. "The rest of you can sit on the opposite wall."

We all go to our designated spots while Dr. Waters grabs one of the legs off the shelf.

"First I'm going to inspect the stump"
