"What?" Mom and I say at the same time. Zach is just sitting there looking shocked.
"Do you need me to repeat?" Dr. Waters says.
"Um, no. Just processing" I say.
"Okay. Well, I'll let you cope with this. But first, let me go get you a cream for the rash and a new sleeve. Then you can go."
"Thank you," I say to him.
Once Dr. Waters leaves the room I look at Zach and my mom. They were both staring at me.
"Um" I start but my mom interrupts me.
"Don't say anything. We'll talk later. Let's just get out of here as soon as possible. Then we'll go to an actual doctor for this" she says.
I nod and then hang my head. How the hell did this happen? I mean, I know how it happened, but how did it happen? I look at Zach and he is still staring at me.
"Mom, can I talk to Zach for a second?" I ask her.
"I guess."
"Thank you."
She leaves and I look at Zach again.
"ARE YOU OKAY?" I sign to him.
"I THINK" he signs back. "JUST SHOCKED."
"ME TOO."
Then Dr. Waters comes back in and interrupts our conversations.
"TAL LATER?" I sign to Zach.
"YEAH."
"Here you go," Dr. Waters says. "This should be a lot better. Hopefully, I won't need to see you again so soon. Also, let me know what you decide about the pregnancy because it will affect how we proceed with the leg."
"Okay. Thank you."
He leaves and we all follow him out.
Mom drops Zach off at home and then we head home.
Once we go inside, Dad and Tyler are in the living room. I sit down with them and Mom follows suit.
"Something you need to say?" Mom asks after we are sitting there in silence for a few minutes.
"No," I tell her.
"Skylar," she says in a scolding voice.
"Sorry," I say.
"Sorry for what?" Tyler asks, oblivious.
"Yeah, sorry for what?" Dad joins in.
"I'm pregnant," I say quietly.
"What?!" my dad exclaims.
Then he gets off the couch and grabs his keys.
"Where are you going?" I ask him.
"To speak to your boyfriend," he says in a not-so-calm voice.
"Dad, stop," I say frantically.
"Why should I?"
"Because I asked you to. Just let me talk."
"What could you possibly have to say. It's obvious what happened here. So I'm going to the one who's responsible" he says without letting go of his keys.
"I'm equally responsible. Just leave Zach out of it. At least for now."
"Noah, just listen" my mom pipes in.
"Fine," he says, sitting back on the couch.
I don't say anything so he starts again.
"So? Talk" he says.
