"Hey, girls, we're heading to a bar near our place. If you wanted to join us, you could. You look cold!" James shouted out to us from their group huddled only a few feet away. The sounds of sirens began drawing nearer and the grey smoke clouds continued to billow out of the building. I coughed and Nadia patted my back.

"It is frikkin' freezin' tonight! I don't know what happened to this winter... I swear it was fine yesterday," I laughed and looked to Nadia for approval of this suggestion. Wasn't this fun? Didn't she want me to have fun now?

Nadia sighed and rubbed my arm.

"Don't you think we should go home now? Isn't this awful?" She shivered and I looked down at her cute shoes, now stained with wine and smoke dust. I knew she meant the fire, not her shoes, but I was sad about those too.

I squeezed her hand.

But the thought of turning around and going home made me grimace... Nothing was going to stop me now. I caused a fucking fire. I caused it... With intense guilt, I felt my chest burning up and I gulped to try and swallow it down and forget the pain. I would deal with this later. That's how I always dealt with my problems. Later...

"Oh, come on, Nadia!" I looked over to see Alex giving us the nod, like the 'come on, let's go!' kind of nod. Looking away to the sky, Nadia took in a deep breath and sighed. I guess she realised now - I was having fun. Finally.

"Okay, but will you be good?" My sister raised an eyebrow, I knew what she meant but I couldn't make any promises. Not tonight. It was too late, I was too deep in this.

"Yes, Nadia, of course I will!" Through a genuine smile and wish to appease her, I lied, hoping she would actually come to enjoy the night too. Besides... How could she not with these lads? I knew we were going to have a great time.

"Now, let's party!" Raising an arm enthusiastically into the night sky, I skipped off towards the three boys who were already making good way into a black taxi.

Alex stayed behind and opened the back door for us. Just so I could look at his face a while longer, I let Nadia get in first.

He gave me a quick side-smirk and shut the door, but not before he let the glimmer of light in his eyes flash back to mine. It was such a subtle moment, but it ignited something inside me that made me feel excited and like we had some kind of psychic connection going on that nobody else was aware of. And I liked that, I liked that a lot.
