Panic

When I was on my way back from the bathroom, Alex pulled me over to him by my sleeve. We both stood there leaning against the chipped-paint wall. Meanwhile, George, Will, James and Nadia were playing some kind of card game that was also a drinking game that involved Nadia taking lots of pictures and James taking lots of shots with George and Will calling them both out for shit... It seemed fun.

Most importantly, I was happy to see Nadia finally enjoying herself (or so it seemed).

"So, Callie, you do graphic design and stuff then?"

"Yeah, but," I reached behind to grab my neck in panic, "I'm really not that great haha...I only just started, so..." I began to look around the room to see if anyone was watching us. Nadia shot me a worried look.

As he shuffled closer to me, pulling his phone out of his pocket, Alex's eyes lit up. "I'm sure you're better than you think. Can't be worse than me."

"Wait, you do design too?"

"No, I don't." We both laughed. "Well, not apart from my merch, but can you really call that design? I think it's cool you're trying something new though." He flicked his hair out of his eyes. "What did you do before that?"

"Oh, just used to be in some band with my sister..."

"A band? That's cool!"

"No, it really wasn't cool haha... But thanks." I smiled and looked back into his sparkling irises and couldn't help melting at his softly closing eyelashes and the way the corner of his eyes upturned. Honestly, how could someone be so pretty?

"So what do you do then, Alex?"

"Err... I don't usually tell people, but I trust you. I think?" He side-eyed me, dropping an empty glass to the floor, ignoring it. "You probably wouldn't believe it but, I make videos for YouTube. I wouldn't watch them if I was you."

"Oh, I will."

"No, please don't! I knew I shouldn't have told you..." he tutted at me and shook his head. "Anyway, let me follow you on insta?"

"Oh, for business? I don't think you want me designing anything for you Alex," I scoffed, trying to get my way out of this.

"Yeah! I think it'd be cool to have you design something for the channel, or my merch?"

"Uhh... wait a sec, Nadia has our business cards." I tried walking back towards the table, only to be snatched back by Alex's grip on the collar of my top.

"Callie... You still have the tag on this!"

"Oh shit, you're right. I was gonna return it," I sighed, unsure of myself, "Maybe."

"You shouldn't. It's nice on you!" There was that broad, bright smile showing off his pointed teeth, making me blush. "And don't worry about the business cards now. Your sister is busy with James and the boys. See!"

Alex gestured towards the game – still going on in pretty much the same fashion as earlier.

Nadia did seem to be having fun and was even downing some shots now. Looked like she had forgotten about babysitting me – so, I couldn't argue with that.

"Okay, umm, this is gonna sound weird, but... I think you already have me on Instagram. You probably don't remember but... you were dm-ing me last night," I managed to spit out all the words super fast whilst staring at the beer-sticky flooring.

"Hang on, wait, what? I wasn't even messaging anyone on Instagram last night!" Alex nervously laughed and pulled out his phone, opening up Instagram in a panic.
