"You weren't?"
"The fuck... no!" Alex stared at me in disbelief.
"Huh? That's weird. Well, I got these?"
As I opened up the messages, even I was beginning to question if I had dreamed it all. But sure enough, the messages were still there. I passed my phone to him.
With his eyebrows pulled together and eyes slightly wider than usual, I watched Alex scroll through the messages that started this whole thing.
"Callie, I didn't send those dms, what the fuck? I love Lil Peep. Man, this has seriously made me angry. What the hell..."
"Then... who sent them? Do you think you got hacked?"
"No, actually I think I know exactly who did this," Alex stared at the screen and groaned. "Fucking hell Ashton, I'm gonna be so mad at you tomorrow... Whyyyyyy!"
I smiled at Alex with my best 'it'll be okay' smile and watched as the new message lit up on his screen.

"So you came to this after party, thinking I was an absolute nonce who hated your favourite rapper?!"
"Not an absolute nonce!" I pushed Alex's arm. "Besides, when you spilled my drink on me you-"
"Oh FUCK! I did that as well didn't I? Fucking hell..." Taking in a long shallow breath he rolled his eyes, running a hand through his hair. "So I'm a nonce who hated on your favourite rapper AND spilled your drink on you... On your brand new clothes as well!"
His head in his hands, soft beige fringe flopping over, I couldn't tell if he was laughing or crying – or just incredibly drunk; looking back maybe he was all three.
"I'm horrible!" There seemed to be some form of residue gathering in his eyes.
"You're not horrible Alex!"
"I am!"
"No. You're really not! You apologised and were so kind to me, looking out for me when we'd barely met. I just couldn't help but..."
"Help but what?" His tone changed to lower and softer.
My head fuzzy, the warmth and weight of his body against mine was the only thing that felt real. I held onto him, the softness of his hands and unzipped hoodie...so comforting. The scent of beer and vodka never felt so inviting.
"You wanted this, didn't you?" Alex's hand gently touched the side of my face, his forehead pressed against mine.
"I- I wasn't thinking about...this," I tried to find the words, any words. "I-" His blue-green eyes stared into my soul and I swear he could've eaten me up just looking at me like that.
"Well, you are now," he pulled me in closer, grinning. He wasn't wrong. Heat felt like it was burning up my cheeks. His touch was sending butterflies fluttering into chaos inside my stomach. How much I wanted Alex was most definitely written all across my expression as my heart pounded faster.
For someone so drunk, he kissed me so tender. His hands on my waist and cheek and mine all in his hair, the moments all flashed and blurred into one big explosion.
"Come on yous two, Jesus christ, we didn't come 'ere to see this... Crikey," Will's high voice cut through the tension and the moment came undone like Alex's hoodie on the ground. Will slapped Alex's arm pretty damn hard away from my face.
"Oh shit, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry mate," Alex stumbled over his own feet and wobbled as he crouched down to scoop up his trampled hoodie. He was swaying all over the place and bashed his head against the wall. Almost like I was dreaming up some kind of wonderful, thrilling teen-romance nightmare, I felt paralysed in place.
"Right, we're taking you home. Now," George (who'd been suspiciously quiet this whole time) pushed Alex firmly back into his seat and Alex just sat there with his head in his hands.
Smiling like an idiot.
I noted that part as I also stumbled back and felt someone catch me. It was Nadia. Of course it was Nadia. It was always Nadia. Where would I be without her?
A barely audible "Sorry," fell from my lips as my head hung back over my sister's shoulder - and that's the last thing I remember from that night.
