24. Nails// Grown Woman

From the brief snippets we’ve seen of Beyoncé’s wedding to Jay Z, the whole shebang looked completely classic, from the star’s classic strapless dress with its enormous train and tons of ruching to the soft pink lighting and the all-white color scheme. But because she’s Beyoncé, she did have one slight variation from tradition: She sported her “something blue” on her nails.

In the short clip, posted on Jay Z’s Instagram (and cribbed from their On the Run tour) in honor of the couple’s seventh wedding anniversary, you get a glimpse of the couple exchanging vows and walking down the aisle and the rapper sliding that eye-poppingly enormous (to the tune of 18 carats) Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring onto his new wife’s finger. And while we’ll take any close-up view of that ring we can get, we were most surprised to see the star’s bold cobalt chrome mani.

We’ve known that Bey is a fan of experimenting with her clothes and hair, but in her day-to-day life she tends to keep her nails fairly simple — she’s often seen in reds and neutrals, though she’ll occasionally amp things up for the red carpet or onstage. And we were especially surprised by her choice to go off the beaten path for her wedding, when everything else was so traditional. But the star’s longtime manicurist Lisa Logan revealed to InStyle in 2012 (shortly after the birth of Blue Ivy) that Bey loves a blue polish. “Blue is a great color, and it looks amazing on Beyoncé,” she said. “We always have a variety to choose from.”
