The upside to becoming famous is getting to meet Beyoncé. The downside? Then embarrassing yourself in front of the world-famous singer.

Holly Holm has rocketed to stardom since her stunning upset victory over Ronda Rousey in UFC 193, and while attending the Canelo Alvarez - Miguel Cotto fight, she had the opportunity to meet Jay Z and Beyoncé.

In the moment, however, Holm asked Beyoncé who she was.

"I meet Jay Z and he says 'This is my wife,' and I'm like, 'Oh, hi, what's your name?' 'Cos that's what I do when I meet someone's wife," Holm told an Albuquerque news station.

"And as I'm shaking her hand, I'm thinking, 'Why did I just say that? Why did I just say that? It's Beyoncé.' Then Jay Z's asking me about the fight, and I can't even focus on what he's saying because I just put my foot in my mouth.

"And I literally have to interrupt him, I'm like, 'I'm really sorry.' And I go back to Beyoncé, and I'm like, 'Beyoncé, like, I can't believe I just did that.' Yeah, she goes, 'Oh, no it's fine.' I'm like, 'No, like, I really, really — it's like such an honor to meet you.'

It was an awkward slipup since Holm's fight against Rousey, which ended when Holm knocked down her once-undefeated opponent with a powerful kick to the head in the second round.

"The reason why this is such a big shock to everybody and shock to the world is because it was that big of a risk to take," Holm said.
