They've claimed to be drunk, crazy and dangerously in love but is Jay Z and Beyonce's romance nothing more than a showbiz sham?

A new book, which has been causing some scandals for Beyonce, is now claiming that she wasn't impressed with Jay Z when she met him at a benefits concert in New York in 2001.

In fact, when Beyonce's uncle asked her if she fancied the star, she responded by saying: "Eww." Then later, she added: "I'm not into Jay."

Biographer J Randy Taraborrelli, who penned "Becoming Beyonce", told the Mirror the pair knew their union could move Jay Z into the mainstream and transform Beyonce into a more credible artist.

Jaz-O, Jay Z's mentor at the start of his career, said: "The way I saw it, it was more calculated than romantic. He was thinking about his brand as much as his heart. He can smell opportunity."

But fast forward and the pair have not only cemented themselves into music royalty, they are also worth a staggering $1billion. And also have daughter Blue Ivy.

And those close to Beyonce said she later fell for the rapper because he was "smart" and she respected him. Quite the slow burner.

Billy B, Beyonce's make-up artist, said: "From my vantage point, the love between them grew out of respect for him.

"Also in Jay Z she had met someone who was smart, maybe smarter than she was, and she was intrigued by that. People made jokes about his looks, saying he was not handsome enough for her, but she didn't care."

There's always been an interest surrounding the couple's relationship, with many casting doubt on its authenticity, especially when it comes down to those whisperings of infidelity.

And last year, when they were promoting their tour, it was almost perfectly timed that they were also having marriage problems, thrusting themselves into the limelight.

Love or not, they sure know how to work the media scene for their benefit.
