Tw: abuse, blood, trauma?
----

Dream POV:

I overhear my parent arguing over my mother's spending and father's alcoholism and bad work ethic. It is always the same thing every night arguing, screaming, and crying. Me and my siblings are almost used to it at this point. We are lucky we don't get hit or at least not as much, sometimes we can't prevent it especially when mother is angry at father and needs to "blow off some steam" or when father "can't think straight".

I can't wait to leave this place in a few months.

My sister Nikki pokes her head out of the door and I smile as much as I can.

"Can't sleep?"

She shakes her head slowly.

"Do you want some water or milk?"

"Milk please," she replies softly.

I nod and rush to the kitchen for milk I grab the almond milk  instead of cow milk due to some of the bad effects regular milk has for her. The cupboard was luckily already open so I grab a glass and pour some milk before heading back for her. When I hand her the glass she smiles but then frown before handing me her report card.

The report card had nothing wrong with it except for a 87/100 in one of the rows. I frown a bit before looking back to her. She was shaking with fear, I pat her head to calm her down.

"Nikki... This is still a good grade there is nothing wrong with it, if anything it may be because you may be a bit stressed. I will make sure mom and dad won't do anything to you ok?"

"Will anything happen to you?"

I feel fear start to overcome me as well, but I still manage to lie through my teeth with ease.

"I promise nothing will happen to me. You can always count on me."

She nods again before heading to bed. As I start to walk away I hear a soft 'thank you' echo through the quiet hall. I smile to myself for a bit before heading off towards the inevitable daily beating.

At this moment my parents have stopped arguing and father is alone in his private study. I let out a deep sigh before knocking on the door.

"Come in."

I obey and walk inside the meticulously decorated room with full bookshelves and soft yellow lights. I clear my throat before having to speak.

"Hey dad, I need you to sign this for school."

"What is it?"

"A report card."

"Can I see it?"

I hand it over carefully and he looks through it before shaking his head.

"Your grades are dropping and you are almost done with school too. You know when I was a kid I didn't have this opportunity to go to secondary school like you do. That doesn't mean I wasn't good at school though, when I was in school I was able to earn straight A's."

"I know dad, you were so wonderful. Who knows where you would be if you could have gone," I say as genuinely as I can. Maybe I can get him to calm down.

"Yes, who knows. This is about you though. Maybe you should drop out soon, you have a pretty face so maybe you can marry someone rich, A widow maybe. Or maybe one of those detestable men. You wouldn't want that would you?"

"No, I will try to do better."

"That is what I like to hear my boy. Here, but go to bed you have school tomorrow right. "
