Gwen woke up with the feeling of a needle going down her spine. What was she going to do? Go to a music company or karate? The tournament was a few weeks away, and she didn't know what to do.
At school, they had to do prep tests. Gwendolyn was with H-L, so she was with none of her friends, and no Miguel. That's when she heard the bell. She immediately stood up, gave her test back, and began to speed walk to Miguel's testing room.
"Hey," she said.
"Hey," he said, gloomily.
"What's wrong," she asked.
"I couldn't find Sensei this morning. What if something happened to him?"
"Miggy, he's going to be fine. He probably is home right now, I'm calling it," she said and he smiled. "And plus, I think you'd do amazing on the test... Again," she said and he grabbed her hand and kissed her.
Gwen, tell him about Quebek!
Gwen didn't. They just walked down the hall to their next class. "Plus, we have to practice tonight for the tournament," she said, knowing that he still wasn't cheered up yet.
Gwen swung from the monkey-bars, still worrying about Quebek. "Come on, babe, you gotta eat something. What's wrong?" Miguel asked.
She finally wanted to spill. "I got a chance at Quebek," she said. "That music company you signed up for? That's good, right?" Miguel asked. "Yeah, but its on the day of the tournament," she said, frowning.
"Oh," Miguel said, his voice sinking. "Well, it's your choice. If you don't wanna go, I won't blame you, actually, I kinda will but still," Miguel said, bringing back her smile once again. She sat on the grass in front of him.
"That bitch!!!" Aisha yelled. "Aish, what?" She asked. "Remember that video I posted with me breaking a board," Aisha said and Gwen shook her head. "Yasmine commented 'Surprised that belt made it around your waist.'"
"That bitch," Gwen said. "I gotta do something," Aisha said.
"We could get my boy Rico to tattoo 'bitch' on her face!" Hawk said.
"Woah, slow down 'Hawk,'" Demetri said in a rude manor.
"I hear how you're you're saying, and I don't like it," Hawk said in reply. Gwen thought of something that Yasmine posted that morning. "Give me a minute, hold on," she said, getting on her phone, which was in her pocket.
She passed her phone to Miguel who looked at the picture.
"PARTY BITCHES! At the Canyon at 5pm. VIP only!"
"We gotta strike first," Gwen said, smiling. "Damn straight," Aisha said.
Gwen helped Miguel stock up on snacks and drinks. They laughed along each other.
Gwen loved their relationship. Miguel cared about her sincerily and the other way 'round. He put his arm around her shoulders and she smiled. "I still don't understand how we're going to buy beer?" Gwen chuckled, after Miguel kissed her cheek.
"Oh, please. Never underestimate the power of... The Hawk," Hawk said, walking up to the cashier, placing a canister of beer onto the counter. "Hey, did you see the game last night? See Puig with the walk-off?" Hawk asked the cashier. "No, man, I heard he flipped the bat to the moon."
"I was watching it at the bar last night with my buddies from work. Whole place went crazy," Hawk said. "I wanted to go but my girlfriend dragged me to a lame-ass play."
"Bitches will be bitches," Hawk said.
"So, how much it gonna cost," Hawk asked, referring to the beer. "Gotta check your ID first," the cashiee said. "Uh. I'm flattered. Do you think I'm under 21? That's my fricking child and wife over there," Hawk said, pointing to Bert and Gwen. Miguel made eyes like he was playfully saying he is going to kill this guy.
"Still gotta check your ID. Required by law," the cashier said, stubbornly. "Right. Just upholding the law," Hawk said, pulling his ID out. The man took it. Hawk turned and gave us a rad sign. "Whatever."
"How about the box of vodka?"
Gwen drove Miguel to the canyon, songs playing on her radio. "I Miss My Friends," started playing and Gwen sang along, beautifully.
She should go to the studio. She has a beautiful voice, Miguel thought.
"Wish we could drive all night, listening to throwbacks! Losing time, but we didn't know that it would ever end. Not knowing if we will ever feel this way again!" She sang proudly.
Miguel looked at her.
But she's a fighter. Everyone will be mad at her. Especially Sensei, Miguel thought thoroughly.
"You should go, to that studio," he said.
"Really? You think?" She said, taking a sharp turn.
"Yeah," he said.
"I am not sure. I've always wanted to go there," she said, after thinking about it. "I wanna be at the tournament, with you," she added, grabbing his hand. "But I also wanna be there. Singing."
He smiled. He was lucky to have her.
She made it to the party where Aisha and Hawk already were there.
