1139 words. This is more like a short story. Also, this felt so weird to write even though I've seen 8th grade couples-
Betty was... tired. Her parents had given her a lecture about being proper and formal and all that stuff Betty wasn't interested in. She went downstairs to get some nice-kreme for gosh's sake! And instead got a lecture. She groaned in her pillow. She was tired. Her phone rang, it was Chara. Betty held the phone up to her ear.
"Hey, Chara."
"Hey, I'm coming over in a bit, okay? Cross is at his boyfriend's place, so I'm staying over."
"Oh, sure."
"Are you ok?"
Betty smiled. Cute. "I'm just... tired, I guess."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"N-... yeah, actually."
"I'll come over, see you later."
"See you." Betty hung up. She slowly tipped toed to the water fountain where Chara would be. Betty sat on the edge with her phone and started waiting.
"Hey, Betty." She'd know that voice anywhere.
"Hey, Chara."
"So, you said you wanted to talk about something?" Chara took his place next to her, relaxing.
"Yeah, but I feel selfish about it now."
"Selfish? How so?"
"I'm practically venting to you. You, who's gone through so much while I'm just..." Betty trailed off. "But you still don't need to worry about my problems, anyway."
"It's alright, Betty. If you want to get something off your chest, go for it. Just think of it as me returning the favor." Chara smiled softly.
"I'm... tired. I'm tired of all these rules, etiquette and being 'proper'. I want to do something that I like for once, but I don't want to disappoint my parents either." Her voice went quiet in the last part.
"Betty. . . You don't have to care what your parents think. You're young. You should be allowed to just live your life."
Betty smiled. "Thanks."
Chara grinned. "Remember when we 'borrowed' that bottle of hair dye?"
Betty perked up a little. "Yeah?"
"Why don't you try that? If it'll make you feel better, or yourself, it's worth the risk." Chara nudged her. Betty hugged him, she came to a conclusion when Chara hugged back. Chara was too sweet.
"Should we go inside?" He asked.
"Yeah, we should."
...
They both were on Betty's balcony, it had a small, round table with two chairs which the duo was sitting on. A vast view of the large gardens could be seen from there.
"-And then I saw he was wearing Nightmare's hoodie!" Betty laughed at Chara's frustration. "This is going to drive me crazy." Chara slumped back a little.
"Awh, come on, at least he's happy. Just imagine— he probably cuddles with Nightmare all the time!" Chara laughed.
"'Probably?' I can guarantee that."
Betty then realized something. "Where are you going to sleep?"
"Uh..." A faint blush lit his face.
"Oh! Never mind, I have a small couch in my room."
"Right. Do you want to stargaze later like Cross and I did?"
"Yes!"
"Great! We can stand out here later!"
